thanks guys I found a relay that worked. It was not my problem, I tested each terminal, it looks like I have a good ground, and the power from the battery is good when ign is turned on. The power that is to come from the "original fuel pump relay" ,on the instructions, has no power going to it when the ign is turned on, therefore not powering up the part of the relay that goes to the boost a pump. When I disconnect the harness that routes through the relay and boost a pump it works fine? If the original relay was bad wouldn't it not work when the the harness was disconnected?
Can I jump the two terminals that are meant to get power to test the system and then work backwards to check where the fault is?
Any help would be great, I will be having some help coming over this weekend and the more info I have ahead of time would be helpful.
Are you talking about the pressure switch? That's just a hobbs switch. Andy has them at A&A now. They're about 39 bucks. Also Mcmaster Carr.
If it's truly just a relay, you can use any SPDT relay. Bosch/Tyco is my preference and 2nd is Potter Brumfield. Take a pic of it and post it up. I should be able to tell you how to wire in a new one easily.
here is a link to the instructions I am looking at.
#86 has a good ground
#87 has power at ign
#85 DOES NOT GET POWER
therefore no part number going to #30
I guess my question is what can I hook up to #85, somthing similar to what goes to #87 or find the relay and attatch it to it. This weekend I was going to tear down what it has and see what it is attatched to now, at this point I believe that is the week link in the system not working. I am not familiar with these outside of what I have learned recently so any insight would be helpful.
In the instructions, it mentions going to the factory relay on pin 85, however we don't hook them up like that. Most of us use a Hobbs switch ( a pressure sensitive switch) to trigger the relay to only kick the BAP on under a preset amount of boost. We need to know how yours is hooked up. If there is a hobbs switch, it will have a vacuum/boost line running to it as well as power. You need to verify it has power. If so, you need to make sure the vacuum/boost line hasn't been compromised.
reviewed the instructions again. It does have an internal Hobbs switch. You need to chase down the voltage loss to pin 85 and your BAP should fire back up.
If you're unable to chase it down, just take it to the fuel pump relay output under the relay panel, next to the battery. While you're at it, check all of your fuses under the hood and in the inside fuse panel.
I will trace that wire back and see where the issue is. All the fuses / relays seem to be good, once I disconnect the boost a pump harness the fuel pump works great and holds 60PSI, I kept my foot out of it as I did not want it running out of fuel under boost. It may be as simple as a wire that has been damaged that goes to the boost a pump.
