it's a mechanical autometer boost gauge. it normally hits roughly 6.5lbs of boost @ 6k and its steady. i drove it a lil bit ago and when it gets to 6lbs the gauge starts to flutter between 5 and 8 lbs of boost. does this sound like belt slip, boost leak or a bypass valve problem? there is minimal dust from the belt but that sucker is tight. thnx in advance.

Your thinking is correct. After you've made sure the gauge connections are solid, start going thru your checklist and you should find it at some point. My first guess is belt slip.
Nice.I have a shop that specializes in GNs for 20 years now.I've had a couple of 8 second twin turbos.I still love my C5 though.
the nostalgia factor is second to none on those turbo 6s but the creature comfort on my c5 is awesome. plus it's got some major ***** at the touch of the throttle.
bet your shop has seen some badass cars roll through.
