beginer questions
I've got an 04 z06 and I plan on getting an a&a s/c kit. I've seen plenty of people making great numbers with basically just the s/c and full exhuast which was my original plan. But now I am going to get rid of my trans am and focus all my efforts on the vette. So what im thinking is get rid of the stock shortblock and try to sell it make a little money combine that with the money from selling the car and go ***** out, built motor, heads, cam, clutch, output shafts etc.
So my questions are
1. what motor? 347, 370 iron, 408 iron. I'd like to build it once and have it last, i see a lot of built 347's making good power but some buddies of mine are telling me going with the iron block would be my best bet for running a good amount of boost through it.
2. what heads and cam, I know there's a ton of cam choices so to narrow it down i'd like it to be fairly stealthy, going for the "stock motor with exhaust and s/c" sound then enjoying the look on ppls faces just for fun

and heads i've known afr and tfs to be some of the best in the business but what size chambers should be used?
Also I've read a lot about ppl using the 317 truck heads? but are they getting them ported or just slapping them on?
3. Fuel system upgrades - the A&A comes with 60lb injectors and the boost-a-pump, but do i need to get a more beefy fuel system, something i can buy or have a shop just do a custom job?
4. I've been an f-body guy my whole life new to the corvette drivetrain, what needs to be upgraded to support the power where to get them etc.
hope these questions are not toooo newbie
but i've been going insane trying to figure this stuff out so once again any help would be greatly appreciated
You will likely need a clutch if you start making good power and use it. Get a slave and remote bleeder at the same time. Clutch opinions vary. The most agreed best clutches are Mcleod and RPS, but again there are others out there that people have had good luck with. For instance, my Textralia triple is great. There's one in the parts section for sale for a great price too.
The upgrades needed are determined by your intended use, driving style and power level.
.........well said. That being said...what is your power goal and use? How about just forge your bottom end of what you have........blower cam, A&A s/c (or whatever tuner) fuel system, exhaust, clutch, meth and you will be good to go at 700 somethin rwhp. There is a point of driveability versus cost versus usable power in a streeet car........all points to consider.
and imxcitd my power goals i'd say are something around 750 or more if possible and reliable cause i'll be putting a lot into it and dont want to have to end up changing or adjusting until a long time down the road and as far as use its strictly a spirited driving or cruising car i have another vehicle i drive daily and the vette is for fun and that rush we all love.
You taking it to the track or anything like that or just shooting for a big number?

I agree with bret above. But give andy a call the man will not sell you one thing that you do not need. Also you will not find any one any better to talk with than andy, On putting you onto the parts in what YOU want to build and not what the vendor what you get buy..Just select a tuner who can complete the entire job, and speak to them with your requirements, and of course your budget. A drive in, drive out job handled by a respected company will be by far the easiest option, and probably the most reliable. DOnt get too greedy with your goals though.
More so if its a street car, but dont forget that the drivetrain may not handle your goals if you get too greedy, and that can add a lot of extra cost.
