Stock pistons? Are you ready to take it out of service and forge it on a moments notice? If your answer is yes to the first and no to the second Q, my answer is "no".
Ok this is what I got from Lingenfelter (BUT BlownBlueZ06 has alot more experience and knowledge then me, I know this)
Lingenfelter told me that you can do a 2.9 pulley on an intercooled maggie, BUT tuning is crucial. They suggested that I meth inject it. I told them I just wanted gas an go, so they said that I would loose timing then. I asked them if it would grenade my engine and they said no, not if it was tune properly (understand I am on a stock bottom end - with 44k on it). They said that all my 2.9 pulley would do is give me about 1-2 psi more over my 3.1 pulley and that as long as she is tuned proper, it should be able to hold it.
Heres the thing:
It has to be tuned right.
Timing and fuel are key they said. They said you will get a gain, but not as much as I could if I could really push that tune with a forged engine.
So hey, I am plopping in the goods. Taking it to a good tuner (either ragin racing or thunder racing) and seeing what I end up with.
