Is a Vacuum gauge needed for doing a Twin Turbo setup on a 98 C5 Corvette A4 coupe?
Well is it needed in general at all any vehicle for that matter? Or do other guages replace the need for it?
I been searching gauges for a turbo kit for about a week now and I hardly ever see the Vacuum gauge by itself but mostly coupled with a 30 PSI boost gauge.
Vacuum gauge can be a useful tool if you know how to read it. There are many people that have them and just look at the vacuum side thinking its cool. Is it needed....NO Neither is a boost gauge or any other gauge. Install, tune correctly and drive.
That said, if you are a guy who likes to know what is going on at all times, I would say a vac/boost gauge, fuel psi and wide band are the min 3.
Leroy: in my opinion a vacuum gauge is not required. When I was looking for a boost gauge I did not want a gauge that was 1/3 scale vacuum and the rest 0-30 psi, as I was going to be boosting about 15psi. This only left a small useful scale for me. I purchased a 0-15 psi fuel pressure gauge as a boost gauge, works fine.
Also when you say wide band you mean the Air/Fuel ratio gauge?
Also I am kinda leaning towards digital gauges any recomendations for the best ones to use?
I'm looking for a boost gauge that goes up to at least 50 PSI, for a future upgrade down the line.
Thanks for all the help so far.
Fuel psi so if you loose fuel psi while boosted you can let out before its too late. Also useful to tell you the fueling limits while tuning/boosting
Wideband is AFR gauge.
Boost gauge. I personally use a EBC ( electronic boost controller ) I am twin turbo and can change boost at the push of a button. I have the EBoost2 which displays boost/vac. My other gauges are AEM. I like them. I bought them for the red output they have.
Alot of options regarding gauges out there.
As for 50 psi, ....... on as LSX motor? I run 22 on max setting and even though I have studs and others have ran 30 psi, im afraid of lifting the head at that level.
I have plans for a fully built LSX 454 just to handle all the boost. I figured I'd go maybe 30 psi and then add nos for those extra needed HP or just do a full 50 PSI, but eh. I will figure it out when I get that far. Mmm N/A LSX 454 with 850+ HP/TQ. Got to love that power before I add the boost. One deadly street racing car.
if you are building a car to make max hp, then you have bigger things to figure out than what kind of vac/boost gauge to run. Besides gauges are cheap and easy to swap out.
