Ok so for the past few days I've been experiencing a very high pitched whine coming from the engine area, it only occurs at speed and not when I'm at a stop. I was looking over the motor today and I discovered that a hose had possibly blown off, I've attached a photo of where the inlet has no hose attached. What is this hose for and could this be causing the whine? Also, what is the best way to locate said hose and re attach? Thanks and sorry for the newbie question, I just want to get my baby fixed as fast as possible.
I drew a blue box around the area where the hose seems to have came off of....this isn't a photo of my setup just a similar setup to show where the hose flew off.
Yes! that certainly will cause your High pitch whine - and it will pressurize under BOOST when you are getting on it - hence the clamp around it!
That one is used for pulling Crankcase pressure out of the motor and it will generally go to the Valve Cover - BUT under B@@ST it "NEEDS" a one-way check valve on it so it will not pressurize the crankcase -
Usually these are capped off and another source is used to pull the pressure away from the crankcase (Example - it can go to the intake tube before the SuperCharger) - make sure that anything going to the motor has a oneway check valve on it or it will not pull pressure away but pressurize the crankcase and blow out motor seals I know, it happened to me
I can't seem to locate the hose, where does the other end connect to?
Not all installs use this hose. Some will have this pipe and the corresponding one on the valve cover blocked off with vacume caps. It all depends on the PCV system that your car came with.
where exactly is the port on the valve cover? thanks so much for the advice guys.
Also, is it bad for the motor to run with the tube on the tb uncapped like it is right now? the motor makes this high pitch whine/roaring sound at speed, I'm assuming that this leak has been causing it correct? I just want to play it super safe and be cautious, I've invested way too much $$ into my baby for anything to go wrong at this point.
You have me wondering if the noise you are hearing is the bypass valve operating as it should. I don't have a turbosmart valve, so I can't tell you what it would sound like.
