Default Tune advice needed.

I just purchased a used A&A supercharger kit and need some input on what I should do about the tune.

Last year I had my car tuned, it cost about $1,000. I called the tuner and told him that I was going to need to retune for a supercharger. He said he no longer uses the program he tuned it with last time, so I will have to start over. He said he uses a Diablosport tuner now, I don’t know anything about that kind of tuner. He does not have a dyno, but uses someone else’s to tune.

Would I be better off buying my own tuning software and have the tuner use my software?

If so, what software should I purchase?

A tuner without his own dyno doesn't sound like much of a tuner to me.

DiabloSport is a hand-held tuner you can buy yourself & install a canned tune and/or make your own adjustments. Some shops have these and use a dyno for tunes.

IMO,I suggest you buy one of these hand-helds (approx $350) or go for the ECS mail order tunes.

Should be good enuff.

Plenty of good tuners out there that I know don't have their own dyno. Tuning on the street is the most accurate since it is real-world. As far as I know, Diablo sport is a fairly basic tuning package. Especially when compared to HPtuners, or EFIlive or LS1edit. Most tuners I know use HPtuners and a couple use EFIlive and 1 uses LS1edit. You can buy HPtuners Pro and a wideband and tune your car on the street. If you need help, I know some very good tuners where you can log your car, send your logs and then upload their changes until the car is spot on.

Bret gave some really good advice. I'd listen to him if I were you. To add something else, please stay away from a tuner who charges you $1,000 for a tune AND switches to the DiabloSport

My advice...ditch your MAF and find a tuner that will do a good speed density tune for you. Shouldnt cost you over $500. And if you have to drive her far to get it done, so be it.

This would be, if you want to do it RIGHT.

My personal opinion...BOOST + MAF =
One very good reason for this is, especially with a supercharger...boost may vary with temps. You may tune for 7psi one day and the temp drops 30* and your boost all of a sudden is 1psi more. If you are maxing the MAF (in most cases you are with boost) then you will go lean no doubt. I try to preach this, but many dont understand or dont want to take the effort to go 2bar.
On my 01 Z with A&A kit I have a stock cam for smooth drivability and no MAF. The car, because it was tuned right, drives smooth as stock.
