I have a C5 twin turbo Z06 and my ring and pinion is thrashed. I need to replace these parts and I am on the fence as to what to get. I don't race my car or launch it. I have made it a pretty long time and I am not interested in dropping 2-3k on a diff.
So my question is I know the Z06's came with shot peened gears but what gears should I put back in this? Is there a better option? I see micro and REM and Cyro treated gears etc. Will these work fine? Or should I get OEM shot peened gears and if so where do I get these?
Call rpm and they will walk you through the upgrades and take care of you on price. Do some c6zo6 shafts, clutches, etc and slap it back together with a micropolished ring and pinion. If you're not launching hard you might even get by with the stock shafts, clutches, etc, but it's best to check the pricing and fix stuff while it's apart. You could do all that well under 2K as long as you r&R the diff yourself.

Ok cool. When you say micropolished which one is that? The REM or Cyro treatments? I priced shot peened gears from the dealer today and I couldn't believe what they were asking for them, around $900 which is about twice the Motive gears. Are these GM gears worth that money? I know Motive is the only company that makes aftermarket gears if you wanted to change ratio's ect. but I want to stay with the 342's.
RPM just micropolishes the set before installing them. I don't think there is any magic to these gears as they are all made by motive. Micropolishing just cleans up the burrs on the gears and leaves a smooth surface finish.
I see your making a good amount of power (torque more importantly) so it's going to be hard on stuff. I don't think anything in a c5 diff will last forever at this level, but with no launching at least you're not shocking the gears.
Yea I am making a decent amount of power but I have not once launched the car. Believe me, I would love to rebuild this thing to the max but I am getting married later this year and I need to get some things done with that, which is more important than my diff right now, hahaha. So I am really looking to just get this thing back on the road for my weekend cruises.
Keep the info coming, I appreciate it!

I run a shot peened, cryoed/polished Unitrax/Quaife diff. I don't really drag race this car, but it does see a lot of abuse. I like the comfort of having solid parts.
I run the Unitrax/Quaife diff as well. It is not only very tough but handles the occasional tire spin and recovery better than a stock unit. What I mean is that when you get wheel spin the car tracks straight, more importantly once you gain traction the car does not whip sideways it stays straight. In my opinion it is worth the extra bucks for high torque cars.
