Default newbie question

still searching for the perfect vette for myself, so this is a bit premature, but I was wondering if anyone here has experimented (perfected?) with using an OEM supercharger or turbocharger from another application on a vette. I was looking at some of the aftermarket systems, and I have to imagine that their costs are much higher compared to an OEM unit just because their production numbers are so much lower.

With the number of forced induction cars on the road increasing rapidly, junkyard blowers should soon be more common. Has anyone tried this?

I personally cant recall any OE superchargers that will fit an LSx motor besides the new LS9 factory blowers.

Its truly hard to beat a A&A supercharger. With options such as this, I dont have the slightest idea why you would want a junkyard supercharger.

main reason was cost, was just looking at prices on vortech's website for the a blower by itself (no kit), and they are between $2 and 3K. If you could cheaper turbo or supercharger used from an OEM application, and then build around it, I feel like you could come out way ahead of the kits.

Then again, maybe there's a reason I'm a newbie.

Even if you can find a blower or turbo unit big enough to work you would still need brackets, piping, pulleys, etc. I think the best idea would be a used complete kit.

It's the "building around it" part that's going to kill you. Unless you are some kind of master fabricator with access to some great metal stock and a lathe, mill and possibly a TIG machine, I expect you'll come out way behind. Even if you are the master fabricator, your time would be worth way more doing the paying jobs to pay for your already completed kit.
Almost no car has the right size turbos to make any power and the ones that I can think of would be rare. (some large displacement AMG Mercedes or something) and the superchargers are all roots type that would require building manifolds and arranging them in such a way that the pulley could be aligned with the crank.
