When I installed my alki system a while ago I haden't seen the posts on the plastic hat for the top of the pump. I also had seen posts showing the pump mounted both ways, pump on top and pump on the bottom. Logic says, pump on the bottom to prevent a potential leak of the pump seal allowing fluid into the motor.
I have kept loads of pumps like this running on systems on a cruising silboat so I put the always used half of a plastic bottle over the top of the motor. Then while looking things over before I buttoned up I noticed the dreaded teat hanging down pointed right at the motor. If Ya have ever seen a milking machine you would have had the same idea I had. Slip a piece of scrap rad hose over the teat and direct the flow down past the pump to the rocker pannel.
If I am preaching to the chior here forgive me but for the new guys--these pumps are $$$$, a wash and wax lad will drown his new pump in no time.
Guess I was lucky. My pump lasted about 18 months, before it seized up from water. After I talked with Julio, he let me know he has covers now. So, I bought a new pump with cover and got it installed. Thanks Julio for the support!
