Default Damaged Idler pulley

Changed the belt tonight for the first time by myself and noticed that the tensioner that the back of the belt rests on nearest the supercharger pulley is chewed up towards the front of the car. Now I know why I'm ripping ribs off the belt. My ? is what could cause the tensioner to get chewed up like this. I should have took a photo of it , but totally didn't think of it at the time. Would heat play a roll in this?? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

Barry

To reduce the chance of this happening again you should get an aluminum pulley version that has been hard anodized. When the belt tension gets high the plastic idlers wear quickly. These pulleys on the SC kits are seeing quite a bit of load.

What kit are you running?

Max

I would replace all the plastic idlers if I was you, along with your tensioner to a HD one, they really do not belong on a supercharged car. Arun at Champion has come up with a bolt in unit for your application.

I've seen that happen twice on 2 separate occasions when a large spacer was placed under the tensioner rather than the skinny one on an A&A kit and then set the tensioner right above it where it was rubbing.

Hey what's up?

Give me a call when you get a chance. I can give you some pointers on other things to look for while you are in there.

Later,
Max

That is caused by the belt being too tight.

The belt is suppose to be looser then most think
