Default fighting fuel pump prob

99 maggie MSD BAP and Racetronix pump / harness

It has been a while, but finally got Racetronix pump and put it in.
decided to do a fuel filter while system had no pressure.

Started car and it ran (idle) for approx 5 min at 70psi then died no fuel pressure.

I bypassed the BAP harness and started / ran fine at 60psi (idle for 10 min or so). I let it warm up as I needed to change the oil anyway.

I will mess with the BAP setup tommorrow. It is a MSD system that was replaced about 1 yr ago. Is there a place in either the BAP or Racetronix harness that could cause this issue??

I will post my progress but any pointers would be great, can't wait to get maggie back on the road.

....Shouldnt be at 70psi at idle..... Sounds like the BAP is not setup correctly.

hooked up the same way last fuel pump was (was old and dying) and help 60psi all the time. I was reading the BAP instructions and it does not meantion any voltage increase until boost, is it possible that it is bad?

Also if the racetronix pump holds 60psi ( will check to make sure it holds close to that under boost) but isn't that sufficient. I know the racetronix pump claims 600HP, but I do have a maggie 10lbs of boost 512RWHP?

Check the fuse for the MSD unit.
You should see ~60psi all the time and you don't get any voltage increase until your in boost.
You can trick your MSD unit by applying air pressure to it with an air hose, just regulate it to 10psi.

I think loose fuse, pulled it out, put it in and it was good to go.

I followed the instructions and put the BAP to its lowest setting. At idle is now 68PSI and under boost is approx 62 (2nd gear)

I guesse my questions is 68psi too much coming out of the racetronix, is it working too hard or is 68psi OK.

My old pump always ran over 60, running 60 under boost and 65 or so at idle. It was a racetronix kit also but was 5 years old.

Took maggie for a quick spin and can not say how happy I am to have her back.

MSD BAPs are notorious for the fuse holder ~melting. Look inside and see if it looks charred at all.

Had the same problem. The nut on the back of the altenator came slightly loose and would give me hell where the racetronix harness hooks up. Locktite and tightened and never had another problem.

That's why I took mine out and soldered the wires together also use NO crimped connectors in the circuit only soldered connections.
The Ractronix harness comes with the proper fuse for protection.

Next question are you using an electrical FP gage? For some reason they are always flaky, I installed a mechanical gage on the rail just for that reason.
Unless you have your regulator set for higher pressure the stock one will keep the pressure ~60psi.

it is an elecrical one, that is a good point that I should use a mechanical one to get accurate readings
