20-50 oil for our cars really ???
So I went to a shop today to get some work done in my car and asked to get an oil change. I already bought all the products i just wanted them to do the work. So he says wowww you should go with 20-50....
Now why ? I mean my engine is stock and not making serious HP. I run 20-50 on my other car which is a race car. But on a daily driver the thicker the oil the more oil temps will be and so forth.
What are your guys thoughts on this. What do you guys use on your 500 - 800 WHP vett.

my engine builder recommended Valvoline VR1 20W-50 when I built the motor, but I always ran 5-30 on the stock engine. If the engine is stock I would stick with the GM recommended 5-30. If it starts smoking then maybe consider a thicker oil to buy you some time until a rebuild.

I am far from stock with H/C and a blower and I still run Mobil1 5W-30.
I have had my 98 since the day it was new and it has never used any oil between changes and never smoked.
I don't believe you should change to a heavy oil just because some jerk that changes oil for a living says you should.

^^^I agree..... Mobil 5w 30w.... no issues. I tried a thicker oil recently and it seemed like i had more rocker noise. It might have been all in my head but it sure seemed to quiet it up again with 5w/30. Best of luck
