I recently rebuilt my twin turbos. My oil pump failed and smoked my turbos. I installed a rebuild kit and a new exa-pump but its throwing oil out of the tail pipe. Could this be a seal problem?
The turbos are off as we speak. Inspecting them to see they are being breached by the oil. Excuse my ignorance, but what restrictors and in what place?
That's might be the problem! The STS set-up had a device that looked like a PVC valve sitting next to the inlet and outlet ports. I replaced it with an Exa-pump, which didn't have this device.
would help if you took pics and posted them but I am suspecting the"pcv" that you are referencing are check valves. Those help keep the oil flowing in one direction and not backing up into the turbos.
Restrictors are "usually" mounted between the oil feed line and the turbo. Generally on the turbo. Ill try and find a pic on one of mine to show you.
Did you have the oil lines cleaned/replaced as well? --You have to in order for the warranty on the rebuild to be valid.
It's critical that the return lines are not kinked and free flowing. Is this a new setup? What kit?If the exhaust/mufflers did a lot of oil,it takes a long time to burn it off by just running the car.
Good luck.
Its an STS rear mount twin turbo. It worked fine until the original scavage pump failed. I replaced it with a more powerful one (Exa-pump). It flows 3 gpm instead of 1-2 gpm. I haven't checked the return lines. There are no mufflers, however I got at least a quart of oil out of the tailpipe before I shut it off.
You either got blown seals or just need a restricter in the line . I had a single turbo car with a journal bearing turbo with no restricter and no problem's but everybody's setup is different .If your setup is the same as it was just a different pump blown seals would probaly be the answer.
