Any of you a4 users lost your tranny pump? I broke something and have narrowed it down to the pump not pumping. Haven't taken anything apart yet but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I took the car for a ride and decided to punch it from a 5 or so mph roll. Hit the rev limiter pretty quick. Walked home and got the trailer. No forward or reverse. Took the tranny cooling line apart and no tranny fluid pumping out when I started the car up. Took the plug out of the tranny pan and lots of fluid came out. Car is an a4 01 Z06 347 aps TT with ET drag radials. Had plans to take it to the track for the first time tomorrow.
Pump gears as a rule do not break unless you are installing the incorrectly. When guys put them in on a bind, they will crack sometimes. However, that is not what your issues sounds to be. You have done the right tests to check for line pressure, and I agree you dont have any.
The pump could have suffered a terrible break. You could have snapped your imput shaft. This shaft will connect to the third clutch drum ( are you running a 4L60E like a stock vette )... Or the torque converter may have spun out. That imput shaft is splined into the inside of the converter.
No matter the failure. Its coming out to fix.
Let me edit this: The only non fatal thing that I guess could have happened is that your filter fell out of the valve body. However, I think even then, it would just act like low fluid, and you would get an engagement at times.

Thanks for the input. I know I'll be pulling things apart to get it fixed. You named all that I thought might be the problem. I guess I could have damaged the pump on installation but I have made a lot of spirited runs and had it tuned on the dyno, so it lasted pretty long if that be the case. Maybe my first removal will be the pan to see the filter.

When you break the pump on install, it only makes it up the street one time. If that.
Does not sound like it was put in wrong at all. Just giving some advice that I see in the shop from time to time. Let me know if I can help out. We build transmissions everyday.
