I recently had a RXT Mcleod clutch put in my 2000 ECS'ed corvette replacing a single disc monster clutch, Lets just say the RXT doesn't play games. When I finally had a chance to test it, after launching it a few times, on a 1-2 shift and I got wheel hop for 2 seconds and BOOM! I completely destroyed my differential. The car won't move and makes a loud clunk noise, I put it on my lift and saw that the whole case is cracked. (pics)
So I am assuming that I need a new one. I believe it had 4.10 gears. (first gear topped out at about 35 mph, it would just spin tires in 1st and 2nd) I was wondering what is the best gearing for my set up (about 515 rwhp) and is the 3 rib the way to go? How can I prevent this from happening again? (I have a brace and all)
I think the best gearing depends on what you want to do with the car. 1/4 mile, stoplight to stoplight, highway pulls?
What tires were you running blowing off 1st and 2nd?
Nitto Invos 305s and highway pulls are a big thing (toping out at 160 isnt all that great for the power it had...) but I also want the acceleration (Damn WRX STI's) but not a burnout machine...
Also I plan on forging the internals and running more boost soon so more power than it has should be considered, but that is then and this is now I guess...
With that much hp and tq why do you want to play with just spinning the tires for. That crap doesnt get the car down the track or road at all. That will get you a loss, are you will get to buy new tire more. Plus if you are driving the car in town the 342 is a excellent gear for the best mpg.
I would vote 3.42s as well. If you can hook 1st and 2nd with them you'll be accelerating quicker (obviously) down low and then that gearing will give you a little more leg up top (at least 'til 150)
I liked the 3.42s when I was making 507, and I still like them with 708, although hooking them is an issue now with my street tires. Drag radials going on soon!
