Default Valve Cover options

I'm a bit too cheap for the nice katech stuff so I'm thinking of using some cool billet coil stands from the guys who make the billet valve covers (also a bit too much for my wallet) and doing some "mods" to the stock valve covers

so the project would involve cutting off the extra "cast in stands" and sanding and painting the valve covers torch red and mounting up the billet alum coil mount brackets in place of the ugly stock coil brackets

my stockers are already modified for the big puke can oil breather

I really hate the "tupperware" but don't want to spend big bucks on the nice katech stuff

can you all give me some tips for prepping and painting the stock valve covers? hoping I can just cut off and grind down and smooth the "extra" stands on the stockers

or .....

I'm also curious if there are some affordable valve covers that would be easier to start out with and save the effort

like a fabbed up alum or nice valve covers with a flat top (polished alum or painted, not THAT picky)

budget is 300 or so not 800 this is just for bling and not for GO!!

GMPP makes some around $300-400. They are polished aluminum.
Check page 3 for a listing of part #
http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/_r...09_Catalog.pdf
There are a few large vendors that I know carry them.
