Default High Fuel Pressure?

I just installed a fuel pressure gauge on my '00 and it's readings have me confused. When I turn on the ignition the gauge goes right to 58lbs but when I start the engine it jumps to about 68lbs. I'm using an auto meter sending unit fed off the fuel rail with a 3' 4an line as the gauge instructions recommended not mounting the gauge directly to the fuel rail because of possible vibration issues.

I thought maybe the sending unit was bad but like I said it reads 58lbs when the ignition is turned on so I don't know what is going on.

Any thoughts?

Sounds normal to me. It's probably drops as it warms up?

Default High Fuel Pressure

The increase in fuel pressure when the car is running could be due to the fact that you have higher voltage, when the ignition is on the pump is just running on battery voltage, or the gauge is sensitive to the voltage change.

Nope, stays at 68 even after driving the car for a while.

Maybe it is a voltage issue, I used the A&A write up to do the install and got my power from the yellow wire under the steering column.

Put a manual gauge on it for a sanity check. They're not expensive.

Another ground may give a different reading. FWIW, mine usually reads high at first, especially in cold weather. The other day I saw 71psi on startup. If you saw 21psi, then I'd be concerned.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am having the same issue, and I'm wondering if OP ever found a solution.

I see 58 psi key on engine off, but as soon as I fire it up it goes to 64 psi.

Could it be that the extra voltage from the racetronix harness is upping the fuel pressure? Even if that was the case what's the point of an adjustable regulator if it can't regulate a couple extra volts at the pump?

same thing happens to me. After the car warms up and your V drops a bit it goes down.

The Racetronix harness is supplying more voltage to the fuel pumps so, yes, that could be making your fuel pressure run higher than 58psi.

So should I adjust my fuel pressure to 58 with the engine running and at operating temp?

No I on't think that will be necessaryto do. You are not that far out - the main thing is to watch for drop and an extreme one @ that

If it is steady I'd just leave it as is.

Thanks,Matt

Cool thanks.

It's only temporary until my HPtuners gets here and then I will vacuum/boost reference the regulator and retune myself

No vacuum reference when setting base fuel pressure.

If you are looking for power for the fuel pump/guage, trace the positive wire from the pump/guage. As stated above, when boost referencing, leave the vaccum/boost line off your FPR at idle.

For reference, my car, boost referenced, is at 58 psi at startup. When at WOT I hit 68 psi.

Put a mechanical guage at the FPR to get a more accurate reading. My guage reads a little higher in car for whatever reason.

I am running an a and a fuel system, hence the FPR. If you don't have one, put guage coming off the fuel rail.
