I can see by this time the rpm tranny is the way to go.I had mine done by select trans-a long island,NY trans shop-about 9yrs ago.I dont need a new trans as of yet.My question is-is the rpm trans just a reliabilty mod as in hard to break or is it also a performance mod.Do you get any extra performance from one?I have an auto-01.Upgraded output shafts and diff.I do get some"bogging down"I guess you would call it at around 50mph cruising side streets on and off the gas. Some people say thats normal with the overdrive.Any opinions? Thanks.
You get both performance and reliability. Billet servo's the best clutches and steels available, crisper shifting with the highest pressures you can achieve reliably, an updated sprag and many more items that make it the best in the industry.
Best in the industry??? They are good but there are plenty of
folks that have what they think is the best. They are a sponsor
but shop around on some of the other high performance sites.
Educate yourself.
I've seen many posts on the reliability improvement-you are saying the way the car rides will be improved-as in shifting/acceleration also?I have an auto.
just trying to get peoples opinions-maybe I'm not being clear-my trans was done by a performance shop-they do alot of the hotrods on long island-i dont think vettes are their specialty though-and it was 9yrs ago-I'm sure tech.has changed. With a rpm trans(they seem mostly to be doing vettes)is it like"wow the car is totally different now-so much better"or is it just more piece of mind that you can nail it without the worry.Yes i know anything can break also. Thanks for any opinions in advance.

Alot of up dated stuff from 9 yrs ago. Plus RPM race vettes and do them ever day for a living. You will not go wrong shipping your trans to them.... I have one and love the diff in it from the stock.. I am pushing over 850 rwhp on a Mustang dyno also. Plus it went over 200 mph on a dyno also.

Maybe I didn't read enough. But is this an a4 or stick?

From what it sounds like in your post here, you do not need a trans, you need trans tuning!
RPM is a fantastic trans builder, but if your tune is not correct, the best built trans in the world is not going to feel correct.
We also build transmissions in house, and feel we have one of the best trans builders on the east coast right in house. On average, when we build a trans from stock the car will pick up roughly a tenth per shift. So it is common for a car to pick up 2-3 tenths in the quarter mile just from a built trans. That's even going from a stock tuned trans, to a built tuned trans! A stock untuned trans, to a built tuned trans can often net even better gains. If your not familiar with track times, a tenth in the quarter is about a car length. So thats 2-3 car lengths in a quarter mile over your buddy with a stock trans.
We are not to far away from you in NJ, feel free to give us a call if you would like to have your tune looked at to start. You can come down and wait for it, no need to drop the car off for that. I can even do that with our mail order tuning special for $149.
RPM builds a great tranny. I noticed the shifts are a lot firmer without any tranny tuning. To really get a real performance upgrade with one you need to have the tranny tuned to your driving/ HP level. That is when I felt a hugh improvement over the stock and didn't have to worry about the tranny breaking.
Call ECS, they can help you out with the tranny tune and just about anything else

My trans is a RPM Level V. It has over 350 passes and still going Those guys know how to build a good trans, however, my next one will be done by Tommy @ECS. I have seen the abuse his transmissions have taken. Plus, they are very local, it is done in-house and they have never steered me wrong!
They are only 1.5 hours from you... (right by great adventure)
Since you are so close to ECS, it's a no brainer to just go and visit them. Have Doug take a look at your current transmission tune. Maybe it just needs crisp shift points. I would blindly choose ECS if I were in NY.
That being said, I have recently ordered a Level VII from RPM Transmissions along with a few other goodies. My current transmission was tuned by Dr. Phil (RoadRebel) at the time of TTiX kit install and it's unbelievable the way it shifts compared to factory settings!
