Default 347 Build "help"

I purchased my Twin Turbo 99 FRC a few months ago from a guy who bought the car from Jason at texas speed. And Im not really sure what the specs are too the engine. Im in the Process of getting another 347 built for the car sense its smoking and I busted the starter housing on cars current 347. I could probably use the internals or fix the block, but I plan on going with New and Fresh parts. So if anyone has any specs on what I should purchase to get the build started i'd appreciate it. The engine in it now has Diamond Pistons, callie rods, stock crank, 317 heads (72cc). Compression is about 9:1. Whats really got me puzzled is what gap i should Run in the rings when I do start to build.

Iv thought about going to 402/408, but im not trying to dump that much money out into it, Iv already spent to much on the car. Tryin to just get it back to where it was with no flaws, not tryin to get insane with it.

Keep the callies rods and the crank. You may even be able to reuse the pistons depending on the condition. Get a block and reuse what you can. I'd keep the heads, have them freshened of course.

There's no reason to go with more displacement to max what you have. Also, something to think about. If you do go with a larger displacement, the turbos might not be optimal for the extra cubes.

Exactly.
And I already have an extra LS1 long block I could use. Im currently deployed with the department of defense in Iraq so I cant go out right now and do the swap, so Im thinkin of just buying all new parts and selling the old ones once I get the engine pulled. But Im not sure what combination of parts to buy as far as , pistons ( what cc or flat top or dished) Rings ( brang and Gap) Cam specs. etc...I know I should probably call a shop and get their advice but I was just gonna run it on the form first to see if anyone already has this setup and what they are using.

Your probably right about needing just bearings and rings, But the thing is the starter bolts came loose and broke the side of the block where the starter bolts up too, So im going to need to swap blocks, iv heard of some people welding them back together but sense I already have another Ls1, I plan on just using it. I probably will wait untill I return home and see whats re-usable. Cheaper that way. I have another queston off subject. Can you run both Methanol and Nitrous? Iv never heard of anyone doing that.

What shot of nitrous are you puttin on top of your Meth? and are you running a mix or pure meth? Im running pure meth and Im wanting to put maybe a 75 shot of Nitrous just to get the turbo's spooled up off the line.

Yeah the starter flange can be TIG welded back on. I've seen it done, but I would just do what you planned. Use the other block. Have it cleaned, honed, new cam bearings and use what you can from yours. If all of the rotating assembly can be reused, you wont need to have it re-balanced. I would contact diamond for what they recommend on the rings with the specific pistons. The cc of the heads and the pistons, must be matched to get your compression where you want. Probably around 9:1 is where you want to be with the turbo. SpeedInc does a lot of turbo stuff and has a few off the shelf turbo cams. Buddy of mine is running one of their blower grinds and is happy with it.

With what you have already, it shouldn't be too costly to get it back up and running strong.

It doesn't take long for parts to be ordered and arrive. I'd tear down the old engine and plan to use the other block. If your crank checks out ok then use it. You don't need a forged crank. Have the rods checked and resized if needed. If they check ok other than resizing then use them. Stay forged here. New rod bolts ARP or 2000. I wouldn't reuse the pistons but if they're not scorched etc then you can. Lean heavily towards new ones. New rings best you can afford. New valves and valve job. Machine head as needed. I'd put good dual springs in. 130 seat pressure. New retainers yada. Cometic or GMs best head gasket. I'd use the former. Best bearings. Consider new cam and definitely new LS7 lifters. Stock intake and TB is good enough for your power goals.

Good luck.
