Default Vortech Blower question

I have a Vortech SQ S-trim blower that will need to be re-built pretty soon (getting a little noise and a small oil leak)

I'm considering having the internals upgraded to the SI-trim unit

According to the website, My S trim has the following specs:
Max Speed:
50000 RPM
Max Boost:
20 PSI
Max Flow:
1000 CFM
Max Power:
680 HP
Peak Efficiency:
72%

The SI trim has slightly better numbers:
Max Speed:
52000 RPM
Max Boost:
22 PSI
Max Flow:
1150 CFM
Max Power:
775 HP
Peak Efficiency:
78%

Considering they both fit in the same size housing, I'm curious where the extra efficiency and flow come from. Does this have to do with transmission gear ratios?

Second is it worth the ~$350 to upgrade to the SI trim or will i notice a difference at all?

thanks.

Different compressor blade on the SI trim.
Only worth it if you're planning on using the extra power and you're not going to miss your house payment or electric bill this month over the extra 350.00.

Is the $350 in addition to what it would cost to rebuild your current SC?

I'd upgrade it while I had it at Vortech... I have issues though

What I'm hoping for is the increased airflow and efficiency will bring boost sooner in the power band without significantly affecting top-end boost levels.

That's easily done with a restrictor plate or a small, undersized, dirty air filter

I'm also considering a custom-built impeller in place of th SI upgrade by vortech. It's a couple hundred more, but compared to the vortech impeller it looks like it would be WAY more efficient.

Don't be fooled by the looks. Vortech has a ton of money in the impeller design software. The impeller in the picture is the (old) SC-Trim, which is a cut down (old) S-Trim impeller. I cannot believe that the 928 impeller would even get close to the 78% efficiency range of the Si-Trim.

From what little pictures i've been able to find, I cannot see a significant difference between the S-trim and Si-trim impellers.

The SI trim appears to still have the straight vanes of the S-trim:

Radioflyer, I would really like to know how many miles did you have on the Vortech blower before it started leaking? I just made the switch to a Vortech head unit because my Procharger started leaking bad at a mere 30K miles of use. I am hoping the Vortech will go much further than that.

I'm not sure. I bought it pre-owned.

I decided to be patient and sent the blower to vortech for a rebuild. Good thing too since the gears were pretty warn down. While i'm not exactly happy about the bill, but it beats buying a new blower and plus i got the Si-trim upgrade.

The rebuilt blower is so quiet, you'd have to listen really hard to know the car has a supercharger. I also installed a custom aluminum restrictor plate that reduced the ID of the intake from about 3.25" to 2.875" to limit top-end boost.

Initial impressions....the S-trim is freaking incredible. I'm seeing about 1-1.5 pounds more boost at the same throttle level as the S-trim....and thus it puts power right where I want it. I haven't really gotten on it hard yet and won't do that until i get the new RX dual valve catch installed so I'm not throwing oil-vapor into my new blower.

I want to know when the blower guys are getting some of these new fancy billet compressor wheels for our superchargers !!

Every turbo unit is getting them, so surely there must be improvements available for the SC users ?
