Default Supercharged 383 build thread

Over the last few weeks we have made some progress on the build. I am hoping we will have it done and on the road in a few weeks. I still need to get the new fuel system installed on the car, along with the wide-band, relocate my meth pump and any other misc stuff I need to do.

Once we get the engine back, I will also be mocking up the new 8 rib kit with my blower and possibly get some new spacers made, etc..I still am using the 1st gen procharger bracket, so I am going to see if I can make it work. If not, I will either go with the new bracket or get a flip drive for it.

Car was running a stock LS6, P1 with meth, headers, hi flow cats. It made 657/562 on 8-9 psi.. Car has 28K miles, of that around 18K was boosted.

New engine is a 10.4:1 383, with callies crank and rods, weisco pistons, large comp cam, .650 lift springs, stock LS6 heads and intake will be used. New fuel system, -8an feed, -6an return, dual walbro 255 pumps, 83lb injectors. I also have sold the P1 procharger and bought a D1 for it. We are hoping to see around 12-14psi without having to spin it too hard.

Piece of piston chipped off on #2, hit the spark plug and caused a misfire.

Started ordering parts

New D1

Car going to the shop

Beginning of tear down.

Drive train lowered.

Engine out

#2 Piston

Once the pistons were out, we found that #5 also had broken ring land.

Block after decking, jet wash, cylinder sizing, balance and blueprint. Was also notched out for the stroker crank.

All pistons and crank installed.

Cam, timing chain and lifters installed.

This is the current state of the engine, we will get all the new gaskets installed this week, then install the heads and valve train. Once that is done I will take it back to the shop and get it mounted back into the drive train.

Looking forward to getting it all back together and on the road!

Friend of mine (who owns the shop) and who has helped me immensely with doing this had it built for his. He has the 2000 C5 behind my car in the picture, has a 383, built drive train and a direct port N20 kit..

Yep! Everything but those 2 pistons looked perfect, or as it should with 28K miles on it.

Wow, I'm shocked that the ringland cracking and having nowhere to go didn't score the crap out of that bore and that big chunk of piston didn't bang up the head.

I agree! when we pulled it apart I was relived when we seen how great everything else looked. Although, when it chipped off and closed the gap on my spark plug, I was only a couple miles from the house. So, it had not been driven since it happened. I would just start it occasionally if I needed to move it out of the garage.

It was very easy to build.

Took some basic measurements, mocked it up with little tack welds. Set it under the car and made sure it lined up rignt and then welded it together.
It works great for moving the drivetrain around the shop. Have another cart outside that I can put the body on too if I need the lift free.

Because I do not like where the previous tuner installed it. It is currently behind the drivers side front tire behind the panel, I want to mount it on the frame.
