Default Speed density or not???

Hey guys, with my current set up I'm running a 2 bar SD tune. I can't pass emissions in my state because of it. If 2 cars have the same HP, and 1 has a SD tune and the other doesn't, is there a major difference in performance?? Also if I go back to a MAF, is it better to get a bigger one.

D1SC Pro charger
60 lb injectors
tune,
headers/exhaust

Will I still be happy going back to a MAF

Please help!!!

Barry

What is required to pass? Not simply a "ready" status on all items??

If that's the case, then your tune just needs work to achieve that.
Are you aware you can keep the 2-bar SD tune and turn on your MAF?

The short answer is no.
I was tuned SD before my MAF tune.

Only reason to go SD is if you are maxing out your MAF or your cam is so big you have reversion issues.

If tuned properly both should produce the same power. My local shop Champion Motors has produced over 900rwhp with a maf and our pcm's that are limited to 512g!

I agree. My car made 754 rwhp and still has the stock MAF. Been like that for over 2 years without problem. If I am running it hard I hook up the laptop and monitor the A/F with HP Tuners, but have never had the need to change it.

And I hear its better with a MAF. Depends on who you talk to as everyone has their own opinion. Also the way car is driven, temperatures, humidity, elevation, dew point, whether its a day that has a W in it or there is a full moon out. Oh yea if you are on your cell phone I heard SD is better but only if its as incoming call..

Power should be the same with either. I can do a more precise and safer tune with an SD tune. Do you want the computer to measure the boost and base fueling on it? The only way to get that with a MAF on a gen3 pcm with more than 500rwhp or so is to scale everything so the computer thinks it is seeing much less air than it really is.

I can't really see much reason to keep a MAF on these cars when boosted if your computer supports the custom OS's (99+). This is from someone who has done both and not just repeating hearsay.

My MAF was maxed as well, instead of "band-aiding" the tuning or going to speed density, I went with this.http://www.powrmax.com/PowrMAF%20100.html

You wasted money. The same thing could be achieved through scaling the IFR and VE tables to not max out the hard 512g/sec limit in the gen3 pcm. All you did was lose resolution. 512 is no longer 512.

I am not a tuning expert, I just know my AFR is right at 50 degrees or 95. I'm happy with it. Besides, my factory MAF had issues anyway.

As long as the end results are what you want. Most people take their tuners word for everything in their tune, Everyone needs to learn how to tune or at least log their driving or WOT once in a while to check things. There is no way in he** if trust many tuners out there cause ive seen too many tunes where they dont even touch half the tables they should be for $600..
