If you take a stock C5 motor with 100,000 miles on it, supercharge it to say 550-600 RWHP and drive it hard on the street; how long is this going to last?

Thats a loaded question as we dont know your car. Flip a coin, your guess is as good as ours.

It's going to last exactly 3,430.37894 miles.

Can you be more specific?

The point is, how much can these motors take? Assuming a motor with no apparent issues.

Best strategy is to keep it below 550 RWHP, safest on a 100,000 mile LS1 would be to keep it at 500, you will need to run meth and I would try to keep Boost at or under 10 PSI.

You will need to replace the springs in the heads and you will need to run Methanol Injection to keep things cool and safe.

Have a conservative tune and you should have many fun F/I miles out of it, but if you intend to flog it everytime you go out or leave a light or drive down the freeway abusing it then it will not last too long.

That's a best case scenario, because we don't know the condition of your Vette now etc.

Thanks,Matt

As I am in the market for a boosted C5; I keep seeing a theme being replayed i.e. high mileage with "just xxxx miles on upgrades". It makes me wonder if I would be buying a time bomb.

Yes, it has been a great car for 100,000 miles and now I have boosted it and am immediately selling it????

My buddy "NEVER" drives his and is now selling it, 19,000 miles on it 2004 Coupe with every bell and whistle from the factory and a lot of after market goodies too! Big Baer brakes etc,

Procharged PSC1-2 making 559 RWHP, Meth Injection, MN6, flawless Black paint, Kooks full headers Xpipe Hiflow cats and tubi exhaust , Kenwood Double Din NAV DVD etc. too much to list - Boosted miles maybe 3,000, more likely it is less, like 2,000 area, low 2000 miles.

He wants $30,000 but in today's market I told him he will probably have to adjust his price, perhaps take offers.

Let me know and I will put you in touch with him.

Thanks,Matt

There is no way anyone can predict how long a boosted engine with a stock bottom will last. If you stay around 500 hp and shift at 6 grand you will likely last for 'awhile'. You would be better served to build a forged engine and a built head. It will last a long time around 600 hp.

Supercharged at 107k miles. Made 480rwhp @ 8psi for 3 years and 20k miles. Meth and flip-drive added, made 512rwhp @ 9psi, and now has 134k miles. The motor has never been touched. Unfortunately, I think the rings are shot as she's using oil. Going to do a leak down test next week.

Many people pay shops to all the work and it costs much more than most think. Then when it is done, they have sunk so much into it, they can't risk breaking something.

Another aspect is sometimes the builder is scared of it. They think they want 500rwhp. Then one close call and suddenly the car will become garage jewelry. Shortly after that it is for sale because it never gets used.

I've put 5000 mi so far on my 8psi turbo setup. I put in pushrods, valve springs and a new oil pump on a bone stock 106000 mi. LS1 420rwhp/468tq on a mustang dyno.

Yep, you'll probably go forged anyways, and blocks are about 250 bucks around here, so boost it till it blows, and build another one. You'll probably get another 100,000 out of her before she goes.
