When i jumped in my z today the display read out low oil so i actually wound up adding a quart of oil to it. I changed the oil a month ago and it was right on where it should be and yesterday their was no low oil icon on? The car is also garaged and doesnt leak a drop of oil either. It is a built 346 with eagle crank & rods, wiesco 9.5-1 pistons, tf heads,a&a cam, and d1sc (soon to be ysi). I heard of engines being built on purpose "loose" to let blow by happen does that seem like the case with mine? Why would they build em like this and what else could be making me burn oil? I dont know if it matters but i maybe drive the car 3 -4 times a week and when i do i dont go crazy but i definetly toa couple good highway pulls each time would this have something to do with burning oil also? ... just concerened and hope its nothing major
I have the same problem on my 01 FI vette. I also do a lot of highway pulls and have noticedf that after a few months of driving my low oil light will pop on. With mine though it seems like there is sometimes a fine mist of oil in my engine compartment. Today my low oil light went on and I checked under my hood. There was some oil blow by around my vented oil cap? I wonder if blow by is the problem and if so, would an evaporative canister help solve the problem?
In my case there's only 2,500 miles on a fresh rebuild. Also, wouldn't there be smoke or some other visual evidence of burning oil (outside of oil residue in engine compartment I have no other indication)
My blower is in need of a rebuild and I lose some oil through that. My engine was built a little loose as well so I have a little blow-by. Honestly it doesn't bother me that much, I add a bit of oil in between changes but hopefully after the rebuild that will go away.

pretty sure mine was built loose also. I know its common for them to build fi engines like that but why exactly do they ?
I use to never have to worry about adding oil, but the last two months, she's starting using it. I've added about 4 quarts since the beginning of april. Not surprised at all, as I was already in the process of picking up parts for a new engine build before that came about.

Because under boost your cylinder pressure and temps sky rocket and things expand. There are also rings made for boost that grow under pressure. Mine has always used a bit of oil and I beat on it all the time, just the nature of the beast I assume.
