Call me crazy, but some things are changing and I am considering getting rid of the ride. I know that I haven't been trying to sell for very long, but not many people have 30+k to throw around for a 2002 Corvette. I have been considering taking everything off of my car and selling it all(shortblock, turbo kit, fuel system etc...) That and people offering me 25k for my car is driving me insane.
I really don't want to do this, but things change.
What do you all think? Think it would be easier to part out the mods and then sell the car, rather than sell the car the way it is?
Considering your will and stamina Phil,it should be NP.It's tough to get all the money for a modded car today. Not that 30 is all the money for your car.Make sure you sell the turbo system or motor first before you pull out the wrenchs.Selling small stuff in the beginning would be a mistake.Maybe you could work a deal with someone for their motor and cash.Your car is worth the most dead stock.
Good luck Bro.
From: ECS : WTF did you break now and HTF did you break it this time
I think I'm at the same point myself....dump the go fast stuff and throw a stock ls1 or ls6 and dump it...
people don't seem to understand it takes over double the price of a C5 to make it a 800 rwhp monster, but the people buying the parts to build one have a much better idea.
Wish I had the coin to purchase your car but it won’t be till next year till I’m really ready to be in the market for vette. Not that helps you any, if you are capable of doing the work yourself and have the time you are better off parting out the car. My rule of thumb from previously modded cars are if I bought a mod new, selling it used pending it’s in good condition will at a minimum fetch 50% of its cost, depending on the rarity of the part as much as 70%. If you bought any parts used you should be able to get what you paid or close to.
I learned with my first heavily modded car that I sold with all parts and 3 sets of wheels you will be lucky to get more than a few k over blue book. When you have a car heavily modded it’s all about timing and finding that right buyer that will appreciate your mods and is looking for exactly what you have. Best of luck with whichever avenue you pursue.
Parting it and selling it close to stock will be your best bet.
You are exactly right about buyers in the $30K range - there are very very few and they can be very picky about exactly what they want (color, interior, mods, etc)
Was in the same boat on a highly modified turbo Porsche.
Pulled all the high end parts and rebuilt it back closer to stock and sold it.
If you have the time and need to get every $ you can from it parting is the way to go, however you will spend far more time then you would ever imagine locating boxes, buiding pallets, getting shipping quotes, replying to emails, dealing with offers, phone calls, packaging parts, etc.
Hot rodding a car is never a money maker. You do all this stuff because you either love the car, speed or just like tinkering around. I can pretty much guarantee you make more money by pulling off your go fast parts, but it's a lot of work to do that, so pick your poison.
