Default ECS Belt Replacement

Time to replace the belt on my ECS kit. Never done it before, anybody got tips and tricks? I will have the radiator out for replacement at the same time so hopefully that will help since I can barely see up in there, let alone get my hambhocks up there to route the belt.

You must have like 1000 passes and 100kmi on that kit for you to need to replace the belt.

Possible inside joke.

It is much easier with the tool that ECS has. The tool locks on to the bottom of the tensioner and allows you to open it all the way, taking the spring tension off the belt. Then while holding it in the open position, you can use a large Visegrip to clamp that tool to the frame to hold it open while you work. Loosen the 5/8" nut on the back of the bracket that holds the hub for the manual idler by the blower. It's located between the passenger cylinder head and bracket. Then loosen the 9/16" bolt, allowing the idler to travel down and away from the belt. Once it's reached bottom, remove the belt and install the new one. Tighten the upper idler, lock it down with the 5/8" wrench and then release the spring tensioner.

If you do not have the tensioner tool just throw me an email with your information & we can work on getting one out to you.

It's quite easy and quick. Blue's instructions were good.
If you don't have the tensioner tool, the spring tensioner can be levered open from the bottom with a large screwdriver.

A couple of other tips: Make a mental note of the belt routing before removing the old one. When installing the new belt, position it correctly on all the pulleys and idlers except the water pump, and then slide it onto the water pump last.

So Blue doesn't accuse me of problems with broken belts , I replace mine once a year, as part of a standard maintenance routine.

doable without the tool, but much, much easier with.

When doug first designed it and brought his to the track to swap a belt with me, I said I NEED one of those....Now I think they're in the kit
