Spring is here and I wanna get back on fixin up the c5
I have a manual belt tensioner I installed last fall..will it cause issues with my STOCK power steering/alt mount ,,causing it to break?
Do i have to remove my antilock setup to install the ESC idler fix??
OR,,should I just go back to the ECS spring loaded tensioner and forget the manual one??
non ic maggie with next size blower pulley.
Can I run the manual tensioner with no issues?? I hardley drive the car,,but usually get on it when I do.
If you have the pre-03 alternator bracket, you're asking for trouble. The replacement runs around 75.00 and I would recommend that you at least get that. ECS is even stronger than that, but I never broke my updated GM bracket and know many others that have had trouble-free performance from theirs as well.

I have the new bracket on order,,,,,BUT,, I need to know,,( as I have a broken leg right now and cant access the car) if I have to remove the antilock dist. block to install the new bracket?? if i can do the ECS mod without removeing as mush,,id go that direction even if it is more dollars.
You can do the ECS modification without removing much in that area at all. Just need to get to the bottom of the PS/Alt bracket to cut it and then bang it off with a chisel or the like. Our guys do not remove the ABS pump to do this modification when we install the kits.

Read through their instructions and you'll see how they break through the bracket with it in place to install theirs.
To replace yours with the GM bracket, no need to remove the brake components. I would also replace the power steering pulley while you're at it.
2 alternator bolts and remove the alternator. I take the 13mm bolt out of the steering column, loosen the 18mm nut in the steering rack closest to the driver side, pop the wire off the back of the bracket that goes to the coolant temp sensor, take the 2 bolts out that hold the power steering reservoir and remove the reservoir then the bracket. Then you're left with 2 lower 15mm bolts to remove with your wrench. I have a stubby 15mm that I use once I get them started. I hold the bracket with my right hand, keeping the tension off the bolts while turning them with my left and alternating back and forth until they're out. Then finish turning the 18mm nut at the steering rack and slide the hose assembly toward the back under the steering rack until it clears and you can remove it. Remove the power steering pulley (you can rent the puller from every auto parts store that I use for free). remove the 13mm bolts holding your PS pump and transfer it. slide out the 15mm bolts and transfer them. Reinstall your PS pulley and reverse the rest of the process.

You know that we also sell a Maggie HD Tensioner setup for your application too. I see you have a manual belt tensioner in there, I guess you had to do some modifications from the original kit?
