just installed my second autometer cobalt gauge and now i shorted it out just like the first one i installed a month ago. I sent the 1st one back to autometer and they sent me another. now i installed my new gauge and it worked for a little while then quit. I called autometer after testing the gauge and harness with a multimeter, and they said that late model vettes fry the voltage regulator in the gauges. They recommend using a 12v source right from the battery with a switched relay. I have mine powered from the truck button switch harness. They said if i was going to do it that way, that they would make me a whole new harness for the gauge and add a power resister to it. So now im sitting on my hands again waiting for parts.
FROM AUTO-METER TECH. DEPT.
If you wiring a fuel pressure gauge, you need to run the 12v wire from the battery with an inline relay
OR
have auto-meter add a resistor to your harness so voltage spikes do not fry your gauge.
just a heads up for future lookers and hope it saves some one alot of headach. These are $260 dollar gauges and i dont want anyone to fry one and it not be under warranty.
