Default Magnacharger VS C6 Z06

1999 Corvette, 6 speed, still stock, with a Magnacharger on it, how would it compare to a LS7 engine?

I'm guessing the LS7 would still win?

I put my money on the ls7 with the ls1 being 100% stock. Robert

Funny you should ask. I had a 3.1 pulley on a Maggie with a forged Lingenfelter long block, headers, exhaust, Halltech filter and while I pulled out on him on the hit, I got passed every time up top. He had an air filter in the stock air box and a cat back exhaust. That's it. Nothing else. I dyno'd 520RWHP and he dyno'd something like 460. I had a passenger and he didn't, but it still shouldn't have gone down the way it did. There are dynos and then there's real life.

Cop out? Pun intended?
It might depend on your definition of "traffic". We go to "Mexico" where you can get away with murder..........literally!!

My 99 with a Maggie, cam, headers etc puts about 490 to the wheels...I still think my 07Z will take it in a race...just the way the Z is geared as opposed to the C5..

that being said the new motor in the C5 has room for more boost so maybe if I crank it up it will be close at the end...

Oh, you are saying the C6 Z06 has better ratios in the transmission?

Or is it not 3.42 gears in the differential?

What if, someone buys a crate LS7, and puts it into a C5, it should be neck to neck by then, right?

It's probably just the nature of the PD blower getting heat soak and losing it's top end.

It uses the same MN6 gear ratios as earlier base C5s. The c5 z06s run the same ratios as the C6 Z51s which are lower. There is a big gap on the c5z06/z51 ratios b/w 3rd and 4th though iirc.

C6Z06 1st gear - 2.66
C6Z06 2nd gear - 1.78
C6Z06 3rd gear - 1.30
C6Z06 4th gear - 1.00
C6Z06 5th gear - 0.74
C6Z06 6th gear - 0.50

Base C5 first, z06 2nd
1st Gear 2.66:1 2.97:1
2nd Gear 1.78:1 2.07:1
3rd Gear 1.30:1 1.43:1
4th Gear 1.00:1 1.00:1
5th Gear 0.74:1 0.84:1
6th Gear 0.50:1 0.56:1

all I know is I can run my 07Z up to about 60 in 1st gear and over 90 in 2nd..can't do that in my C5...

I like my chances against a C6 Z06. Especially from a roll. M6 with intercooled Maggie with other mods. Around 490rwhp. No comparison in low end torque. But as stated, the Z06 has the upper rpm power advantage.

I forgot the LS1 had a lower redline than the LS6/LS7 too. That would be the difference.

Crate LS7 motor in a base C5 would be the same. The c5 *MAY* be very very slightly faster due to lower weight.

C6Z's are pretty well documented in teh 430whp range. C6Z's also weighed more, though people have debated on how much more due to weighing their cars with varying amounts of gas, mods, cargo, etc. Regardless...the C5Z is certainly lighter.

In my opinion a C5Z with more torque and more pk hp, especially approaching the 500whp range should certainly beat a C6Z. I make 578whp512wtq with my centrifugal setup and I'm not worried about stock C6Z's.
