This happened over the weekend at Richmond Dragway.....
This guy was from MD. It was the first pass on a new motor setup or something. He left the line and blew off a fuel pressure gauge on his regulator. He then had a NOS backfire through the carb which started the fuel fire. The track was scared to get close to the car due to the chance of it exploding. It was a Nova drag car, very nice setup with a pro fogger system on it. Needless to say it burnt to the ground and the NOS bottle got so hot and built up pressure it blew up, thats what the picture is of. When it was done, nothing was left but a burnt up motor, tranny, rear, & rollcage....
The car would have gone up in flames without the NOS, too.
The fuel would have reached the heat of a header or anything else and that
would light the fire.
Also why did the NOS bottle explode, there´s a blow off cap?
I feel for the guy who lost the car, but thats a great picture. Joe you need to find some 8/71 blower back fire pictures. Like the one's with the supercharger 40 feet in the air.. j/k. Hope your enjoying your car now that youve blown it.
To make a point here. I read posts from the nitrous crowd on how people that installed blowers are wasteing our money when all you need is a shot of nitrous. Yes the stuff is a lot of fun but very hard on engines & hardware.
In the early 80's I played around with it . Yeah I went fast but also learned what damage a back fire in the intake system can do . Also what it does to
pistons, rods, block & crank. So you nitrous guys have fun but no thanks I will rely on other means to make power.
All N20 bottles, come with 3000 PSI rupture disk, for safety. Unless somebody fooled around, with N20 bottle rupture disk. Bottle should not have exploded.
Fuel line breaking without N20, would have caused fire.
Modern N20 systems seem to be very safe. I do not see posts about motors blowing up from N20. On this board or other F-Body boards.

I played around with NOS also in the 80's on my T/A. Don't know about all the engine component risks and all that but I liked it for the first few months and then I got very tired of replenishing all the time and always having to go WOT.
