Default question concerning rear gears

i had heads and cam running 4.10 gears in my M6 coupe. When i got stroked and sc all i read was to not go with a gear higher then 3.42. so i changed.

with the M6 transmission and 3.90 gears, isnt the drive ratios about identical with a m12 z06 tranny and 3.42 gears? with this said and proven, then going with 3.90 gears instead of the 3.42 gears wouldnt be a problem, correct? or are the Z06 guys changing their rear gears for a different ratio? like a 3.08?

i dont get into my boost very often but do drive my car daily and even though my car moves very well in all gears without boost, the 3.90 gears would be even more responsive. am i looking at this correctly?

I am forced injected and I went from a 3.42 to a 3.90. I am at 500 RWHP. It moves really low on the bottom. I am however a little disappointed with the torque in boost. Although the 3.90 may move the car faster, I got a greater seat of the pants feeling with the 3.42. To answer your question with the Z06. The gear ratio with the 3.42 is the same as a M6 in gear but the other ratios are different. It will also depend on you horsepower. Over a certain level you may not even be able to hold traction.

I have 3.90 gears on a 402 and T-Trim. Last car was a stock LS1 with a D1 and stock 3.42 gears. I love the 3.90's for daily use, but the mileage kind of sucks...

Hey,

I know the take off is better and the 3.90 gets you into the boost range faster, however, did you notice a loss of torque in the boost range going from 3.42 to 3.90?

You will have more torque everywhere with deeper gears. That's what deeper gears do. Gears make he car excellerate quicker, make things easier on the drivetrain, and you still have to shift the same amount of times at the track.

i am at 504rwhp and 500rwt right now. just curious how why everyone was stating not to go to with 3.90 and 4.10 with a MN6. All of the charts i have seen comparing the 6/12 transmission, show the mn6 with 3.90 gears to be the same final rpms as the M12 with 3.42.

Andy had originally told me to keep my 4.10 due to the final drive being almost point to popint of a z06. i believe im going to change to either 3.73 or 3.90. The 4.10 gears i believe are going way overboard.lol

im supercharged and run 3.90's with an mn6 and love them!
560whp

they make the car feel like it actually has low end. before the gears i wouldn't be in my power band until about 3.5krpm now i can take off from 2krpm and it has the same pull.
