My good friend in San Diego CA. called today with bad news. He was on the street with his 99 convertable 6 speed on stock tires, under 8,000 miles on the car. He hit the NX 100 wet shot with all the toys and safety equipment and all hell broke loose. The clutch broke when the car was in third gear and the revs hit the roooof!!! The valves could not get out of the way and the pistons beat the crap out of them. I just finished my install and now i am very unsure about the "very safe" under 100 shot stuff. I have read everything for the last 2 months on this subject and I was feeling good about it. Was this a freak thing or have many of you had problems like this?
I understand the old " you play you pay thing" however this one sucks bad.
This car was only on the third bottle and always driven with care. Can the stock clutch handle a 100 shot?
Feeling bad,

Sounds like somebody, did not install all the N20 safety equipment correctly
N20 window switch should be set below RPM limiter, RPM.
Revs should not of hit the roof. Factory RPM limiter, should prevent over RPM motor damage like you posted ;)
Jetskifast, The car ran great on the N20 and all the safety systems worked fine. The car was under load at 5,000 + RPM in third gear, when the clutch blew the rev limiter and the window switch did not have a chance! The rev limiter does not break a spike in RPM. I could be wrong but how could the rev limiter stop this damage while the juice is on.

Jetskifast, I understand the rev limiter and how it works, I also understand how the window switch works. What do you think caused the pistons to hit the valves? I think the slingshot effect of the clutch blowing out and not just slipping is what caused the over rev. The window was grounding the noid relay so it was working. The 6,000 RPM pill would shut off the N20 however, I do not think it would break the free spinning engine before it hit the valves.
Loud Mouth
It´s not the fault of the nitrous.
Or maybe it is as it was the Nitrous that gave you the power to damage the clutch.
However your friend overreved the engine and that caused the valves hitting the Pistons.
That was because he couldn´t react fast enough to back off the gas after the clutch let off and given that high rpms there was a damn short way up to the rpm`s that his valves needed to hit the pistons.
That really is bad luck :(
Such things are the reason why I did my FLP tranny bevore spraying !!!!
I think the weekest link in the C5 system an the cause of this is the clutch. The C5 clutch is very week with any profomance mods. i sugest there would be no problems with an auto trans with all safty featutres in place. The stock clutch can not support any abuse and thus caused the rest of yours buddys nightmare. He should concider himself lucky after some cars i have seen when the clutch let go and distroyed the bell housing rocketing through the firewall and lodging into the windshield. please look into the "Cartek" clutch solution for your concerns.
