The year is ending, so let me share my experience of a fake engine builder I met some years ago.
I think it was around 2003…2004 when he started to follow this forum and especially this section. He didn’t have any automotive engineering background, albeit he was working in a high-tech industry in a silicon valley. After some months he noticed that there were some forum thruths that kept popping up again and again. Such as what is the good camshaft for a certain engine combination. Or how well a LS6 intake performs in a boosted LS engine. And so on. He was wise enough to make notes and memorize all this know-how.
Soon he realized that without any scientific approach, he had become an internet expert. A guy who knows everything about anything related to boosted LS engines. No matter what question was raised, he always knew the right answer – all this without ever designing a single camshaft or an intake manifold.
Then this guy realized that there are computer programs he could use, such as tuning software like EFILive and HP Tuners, as well as toy-like modeling software like Camquest, and a bit more professional Engine Analyzer Pro. He played with all of them. He also tuned his own car, as well as many others, having a great success. At the same time, he read lots of automotive engineering books and tuning guides.
All this didn’t make him a professional engine builder, even if he did actually assemble some of his own engines. No, he was just an ordinary guy who really didn’t know anything about things like proper tolerances of a well-built LS engine, or how to design a good intake or a camshaft.
You know, I sometimes meet this guy. Actually, every time I look in the mirror.
Well most Tuners i have seen are not automotive engg background but thier hobby and ton of experience brings them a tuner,
Most engine builders i have seen are have either Automotive engg background or machinist with automotive knowledge.
some good some bad, some pretend they are damn good, some dont.......at the end you the admirer or victim, its been like this and will be like this.....learn and move on and spread the word, word of mouth is most one a good business is always after, look all these bad *** vendors here, they hardly do marketing and yet have great success in winning customers......thru word of mouth by thier customers....i can go on and on...GL for next year.
