Default Auto TTIX..3 or D

I am doing another track day in couple of weeks and have a question regarding D or 3....

should I keep my car in 3 and launch and go all the way or
Keep in D(over drive) launch and go

I had it in D the last couple of times and someone mentioned that its not recommended to do that. Please advise Thanks

Its a stock Z06 3.42 diff

Always run in 3rd when racing. You can shift it to 4th once 3rd is wound out

When in 3 it applies the overrun clutches and that will put less stress on the sprag.

You should be running it in 3. Let me know how it runs. Did those trans issues never come up again?

I was told the clutch pack for 4th is very small and 4th gear should never be used at the track or when hammer down on the highway. I drive mostly in 3rd unless taking a road trip on the highway for best gas mileage.

I hear all of this, and I have never raced in 3. My foot goes to the floor in 4, it never shifts to Od at full throttle anyway.

My trans is a RPM level 5, with more passes than you can imagine.

4th gear uses the band. Same as 2nd. It's a 2/4 band. It's a strong band. The 3/4 clutch pack is what use to be the weak link but rpm has that figured out. For third it applies the 3/4 clutch pack then to get forth it applies the band and keep the 3/4 clutches applied.

When in 3rd overrun clutches are applied taking some load off the sprag. I have busted sprags before I knew better years ago. It normally would take it out on a wot downshift.
