Default Nitto 555R-II

Just replaced the tires on my Supercharged 01Z. Went with another set of 555R-II's. The fronts are still good, but the rears had the centers worn completely smooth. I need to change the pressures I run at this season. Here are some photos of the tires.

I was running 32lbs of pressure in these tires, which I thought would have been ok...but apparently it was too much. I'll probably end up contacting Nitto, but what do you guys run in your 555's? Running around with these tires at 26psi just sounds too low, but seems like what they need. I use this car on the street as well as dragracing, autocross, and road racing. Obviously, I don't mind changing pressures for each event. Autocross is easy enough to figure out, but what about the street, drag, and road racing?

edit: On 2nd thought, the better place for this is in the Autocross/Road Racing section. Please move this.

mine are inflated to 28-29 and still see the center wear faster, not as much as yours though. No driving issues at that pressure for me.

I'm going to try 28psi and see how that goes. I never had any driving or traction issues at 32psi, but I'd like to wear the tire a bit more evenly this time around.

Does anyone know how much undertread these tires have? I was thinking of keeping the old tires and using them for drag racing.

Around town I run about 30psi. When I need traction I drop down to 26psi. Seems to hook up nice after a slight burnout.

I thought they stopped selling the 555RII? They still make them?

They are discontinued. Fronts are completely out of stock everywhere, but the rears are still available in most places. All I needed were rear tires this season.

to test your contact patch, with the tires warmed up take a grease pen and draw a line across the tread then drive straight a short distance (20 feet) on a level parking lot (concrete works best) then look at what is worn off that will tell you if the pressure is to high or to low.

Pick up a tire temp gauge from Intercomp or Longacre and then dial them in for each type of racing.

I prefer the gauge with an actual probe to stick into the tire, rather than the non-contact version.

I ran mine around 28 and had alot of center wear. I lowered them to 20 and they hooked even better. They did feel a little squishy cornering that low but was really good for roll racing. I wasnt aware they quit making them but I also switched to Mickey Thompson because I needed more traction.

I run 24-25 psi and get pretty even wear on them....Sure the center is SLIGHTLY more worn then the outsides but not anywhere near as bad as yours... But if i know i am gonna hit some twisties, I'll air em back up to 30 psi for stability...then back down to 25 psi for normal driving... 17 psi for some drag action.
