Default Damper issue... AGAIN

On my 2000 LS1 :
January 2011, install A&A V3 Si Kit (6 rib, 3.4 pullay) on stock damper
May 2011, on drag race, saw my belt have lost one rib, was thinking that was because a metalic part =>I replace the belt
July 2011, 50.000 miles, i see and know the damper wobble (test by approching mettalic part to ear "ding ding ding") (0.06 inch) =>Ask to A&A, and replace damper (new stock one)
January 2013, 60.000 miles, cam swap =>Noise from pulley, replace 3 pulleys, no change
April 2013, 63.000 miles, was thinking that was because AC tender, i pull the AC belt, no change
May 2013, 64.000 miles, i SEE (not test yet for know) again the damper wobble (almost 0.1 inch, perhaps more)

So, what is the fix...
A second new stock LS1 damper ?

I know A&A sell innovators west, 8 rib, and 10% OD, but have read same wobble issue with it...
Also, because it's 8 ribs damper on 6 ribs belt, i have read that i should not do this...
Also, because it's OD, i have read that i should not do this (i shift 7000rpm with my big cam with power band 2900-6900)
I know some install ATI or other and have clearanse issue...
I know some install Summit SFI pulley without issue...
I never see Fluidampr on FI, because issue when pinning it ?
Never see Fluidampr OD also...

I have see (in stock size, SFI) :
LS1, Summit, elastomer : 190$
LS1, Fluidampr, fluid : 400$
LS1, ATI Super Damper, elastomer : 440$

I'll prefer fluid for safe...
I'll prefer OD than stock (same price and that will be solution for gain the psi i perhaps lost with my big cam and my 2" headers)
I dont want to go 8 ribs
If i cant buy fluid OD, and if i'm sure the summit SFI will solve definitively my problem, i will buy the cheap summit

We have run 8rib belts on 10 rib balancer without issue. I have not seen a IW wobble.

summit SFI, you are drag racing and it's required for 10sec tech anyway

Yes, i drag race, i two country, but havent roll cage, so, i'm in 12s category
I'm just playing to hit 10 in one of the two country because it's permit
So, no "need" of SFI
Does the "elastomer" of the summit is hardener than GM elastomer ?

I run the Summit dampner 2501. I'm supercharged and have had zero issues. It is an 8 rib but I run the 6 rib belt with no problems. If the belt jumps out, you have other issues. Rod

I think Innovators West is SFI also, so that's 3 votes for SFI. It's not just for looks, there is a reason that they have an SFI rating. If you put another stock balancer on there, you are going to have the same problem again.

I find a 6 rib fluid SFI from "PRW", 220$ only... good idea ? (note : grrr, seems to be underdrive only)

You right, i have correct my past post
But according to IW website, the 6 rib vette is an underdrive (7.25" instead of 7.5)

You do not have to move the rack for the 8 rib and you can run a 6 rib belt on it and when you do upgrade to a 8 rib you have the balancer.

The summit balancer is not a powerbond. It is or was made in Australia. The Summit 2501 has 8 ribs but you cannot upgrade to an 8 rib set up with it. Go on the website and watch the 360 degree image and you can see that the ribs are toward the motor. It is SFI and has held up well for me. Rod

<<<NEWS>>>

I just find the (perhaps) best of the 3 world...

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...ductId=1679269

1 - JEGS SFI
2 - 10% over drive ratio (8.10" dia.)
3 - JEGS PRICE (half a price compare to a IW)

It's a 8 rib, but since you wrote me it's not a problem, why not... But i think it's the same as the summit... the ribs are toward the motor and cannot be use with 8 ribs application !?

BUT... who use as jegs damper ?

Can i hope is the same good quality as the summit one ? (i just not choose summit because they dont have OD)

1. I've been exposed to many IW's and they don't wobble. They can't based on their design and construction.
2.Not much out there could even come close to being as bad as stock.
3. I've heard good things about the Jegs piece from people who've used it. Get it!

A little off topic but I didn't have to space my steering rack even with a 10 rib. I don't know why but it worked out with plenty of Clarence.

To the OP buy what you can afford brother.

I think most of us run the IW balancer.

I've never seen an issue with running a less ribbed belt on a more ribbed pulley. I could foresee issues if you we're trying to run a 6 rib belt on a 10 rib pulley but not 6 to 8 or 8 to 10 it should be ok.

I bought the jegs piece and had to return it at the time all they made was for fbody. It was a nice looking piece but still had the rubber isolator ring (that is what started tearing on my stock one). It does have a big c clip holding it together though. If the jegs piece was available back then Im sure I would have went that route.

Throwing this out there..

Shipping from the US can be expensive, so if buying something like that, it would easily fit inside a pair of tyres...so shouldnt add any cost over that of shipping the tyres themselves.
