Tires... Summer 2013
It's time for me to address a set of tires. Currently running Michelin Pilot Sports 315 30 18. Love these tires, work good, last long time.
The car makes between 540-800whp depending on boost, and octane.
I've started considering some different tires though...
1st up, as always are the Pilot sports in a 315 30 18
2nd up is the BFGoodrich Rival in a 315 30 18
3rd is the Michelin Pilot super sport in a 285 35 18 (no 315 30 available!)
The Rival has piqued my interest, as it is getting a lot of good reviews lately. Seems like a good piece.
The super sport looks like a hell of a tire, but I'm not sure how much traction I would be giving up by going with a 285 35... So I'm torn.
I'm also open to other suggestions. I would like to put the power down in 3rd if I could, and would definitely like to get it to stick in 4th again.
Drag radials are not an option, as we get hung out in freak thunderstorms in the summer in the south.
The Toyo R888 tire is a R2 compound tire that's considered a competition tire and they seem to last the longest.
You also have the MT ET street drag radial. (My personal pick)
And nitto NT05R tires (also a drag radial)
However if your looking for a good tire and don't want to spend a ton then look into the hankook Ventus V12's. (just as good or better then the Michelin PS2) they're a good tire but don't expect any traction if your romping on it with your power levels.
Look at the R888 and let us know what ya think.
Too many threads of people crashing their Vette's running 550+rwhp on regular street tires. It's just not a smart move. You can run them fine in major rain as long as you're careful and use common sense. I've had no issues running my Nitto 555-RII's in very heavy downpours, I just have to slow down to 55mph if it gets bad enough. I'm running 630+rwhp and can hook 2nd if it's warm and 3rd is a dead hook all the way through.
