i have a belt squelch and i know its the blower belt. i have a gates alignment tool but im clueless on how it works. it just doesn't make sense to me. i have it calibrated with the paper its sent with.
watch the video and you will see what i mean. it doesn't make sense why on one side the pulley it would be 3 ribs in and on the other its 2 ribs.
from what i get is the plastic ribbed idler needs to be shimmed out so the laser is in the middle of the same rib it hits on the balancer.
I just went through something similar. Maybe it's not clear from your video but is the alignment a full rib off (blower to crank) when the alignment tool is all the way to the left (in the video) but dead nuts on when all the way to the right?
Post some more details on your setup:
Head unit
Bracket
Brand of blower pulley
Brand of crank pulley
when i have the tool all the way to the front of the pulley it hits the 3 rib in on the balancer dead nuts, when i the tool on the rear of the pulley it hits the 2 rib in dead nuts
I was having an alignment issue as well. Bret told me that paper is CRAP when it comes to calibration. He calibrated it for me,(problem fixed) as a matter of fact he said he was going to make a thread on how to properly calibrate it
well i finally fixed my squeal!.... i ended up pulling the belt off the alternaotor side and adjusted the laser tool to that knowing it was good.... i then used that on the blower bracket and found the plastic ribbed idler was off 1/2 rib.. used a washer to space it away from the bracket, put it all back together and fired it up... music to my ears not hearing that dam belt chirp...
