Default Auto trans question/ help needed

As some of you know i got my car back and after 8 days my level 5 trans lost drive and overdrive. Temp spiked up to 257 degrees on the tranny fluid and i have a trans cooler. I am going to be pulling the trans out this weekend and checking to see if the shop had kinked any lines etc ....

Now my question is this.....

Will a level 5 hold up good on the street with street tires not drag radials? Reason i am asking is my cash flow is super tight over all this build thats taken 3 years and alot of money. I called rpm and to fix it which they think is the clutches is $1000 and to fix it and upgrade it to a level 7 is like $1300 more.

Just wondering if any high hp auto guys have a level 5 and its holding up. By the way my hp is 826rwhp

Thanx
Rick

Rick I don't see your trans going bad on a level 5 that RPM put together. Unless the old shop did something to cause it on you like you said. It will cost you a lot more than the 1300.00 to go to level VII on c6 cradle then the plate that is 5/8 thick for 550.00 you need also.

Ship the trans to them let them do their work to it cause the art of these trans to live at these rwhp is the line pressure they set the trans up at to work like they do.. Robert

Just fix what you have and ask if they can do some tricks for a little more $ to make it last longer. We all know were pushing the 4l60 beyond its limit's

I wish I could fit a 4l80 in there!

no this is my 1st trans failure but i only had the car back 8 days and have been doing paint work on it 4 of the 8 days so only drove it 4 days total. and have never gassed on it over half throttle and in drive not od its just sad that the trans came with a 90 day warranty which expired still sitting in mayhem motorsports shop almost 3 years ago!

Buddy the level 5 will do good for you with you doing the pull out with what you have said it was new when you took it to them look at your lines like you said on the car. Put money on it is something they did to it. RPM text ever one of the trans befor they ship them out. Robert

On a side note... I thought my rpm's were high going down the highway on the way home from mayhem in nc and i now see why.... I am almost 110% sure when i looked under the car when i had it back in december it had a 3.42 in it and now has a 3.73 in it!!! I never agreed to have a 3.73 rear in my car never wanted 1. 3.42 is as high as i wanted to go and expressed that from the very beginning of the build!!! With that said .. Seeing how other parts were switched out on my car every time the car was sent back i am willing to bet so was the teans and rear on this trip back!!! Now i am stuck with a rear i clearly do not want in the car!!

After reading your other thread, anything that has been done to your car wouldn't surprise me. Good luck with everything. Hopefully RPM can get it straightened out for you.

Buddy look at the trans and make sure it is still a RPM trans they put their decals on it plus use to paint them black. I hope it is stil a level 5 trans in it. But the 3;73 you can trade it out with someone in here due to the drag guys want the 3;73 now more than a 3;42 in the car for the track...

Rick,
I have a Level V tranny in mine and at 734 RWHP -

However for just $300 more you can go with a Level VII I would do it, it is worth it to even borrow the money to do it!

If I were to go and up my RWHP to your level I would up to the Level VII myself - it is well worth it! A No Brainer!

Thanks,Matt

Okay I misread then -

I thought it was $1000 for the Level V fix and add $300 to make it a Level VII making it $1300 total - Gotcha!

So in reality it is $1000 for the Level V and then add an additional $1300 to make it a Level VII making the total $2300 - I see now!

That's why I thought an additional $300 was worth it!

If the budget is very low then do the Level V and take any tranny lines going into the radiator out of it and bypass it straight into the cooler - that is what I have done and there are no heat issues ever!

No matter how good your tranny is built heat will destroy it thoroughly!

Thanks,Matt

So now your saying that you don't have the same rear end and transmission in the car? Is It at least a RPM??

Not all there trans are black some are not painted mine is just bead blasted. The servo cover will have a RPM decal on it.

Rick, that was what I was thinking from your post I don't see no way a RPM level 5 trans going out in what you where tell in the post. But again any thing can happen to something after just setting for 3 yrs.

You know what kind of luck your going to have with them when you call them about this.Robert

Correct i had a rpm 3.42 now its a rpm 3.73 and from taking it out of the car they have been together for awhile which makes it true that both were swapped out and kept together. My other trans wasnt black it was like a blasted color. This current bad trans is a rpm but not the same one that was in my car a year ago! I will be posting some more backyard mechanic pics of the teardown later today
