Im looking for a tire that can put 600 rwhp to the ground - in first gear and still provide limp home capability in summer rain (ie. Driving carefully)
I could care less about tire wear or rock throw noise.
this tire is made in the sizes i run.
Does anyone here have any experience with this tire?
It doesnt look like it would be adequete for wet limp home capabiliyy, but i seem to remember some here run it.

I loved my 335 R888's. 1st gear wasn't going to happen for me, but I was making 1000whp at the time. These tires handle great, dry and wet. I've been 90+ in the rain and still had a good connection to the pavement.
GREAT tire for street performance, light track use, and awesome canyon runs!! They do ok in the rain, but I don't have much experience driving them wet, don't go out in rain...
I've been running them on both cars for the last 3 years...
I usually throw some scrubs/slicks on for the track, and it gives better traction, and saves the life of the R888s.

Well. i dont take the car out in the rain, but the weather changes so quickly you never know.
My bfg drag radial 2 do hold first gear and are my current tire of choice.
I've had my 305 R888s for 3 yrs now, probably have 12,000 miles on them, they work great in the rain,I drive my car year round and I live in Washington on the wet side.
I ran these in the 305 flavor for the past year at about ~640whp and they're great on the street. I also tried to run them at the strip a few times, but they would light up through first even if dropped the tire pressure....no surprise, but just trying to give you some feedback.
I wouldn't waste your time with any other tire IMO.
Remember that proxes 888s are designed as road course tires, not drag tires.
There are other tires which will hook in 1st and 2nd better, but as far as a streetable wet/dry handling tire goes, they're probably the best out there in that department.
I've read that Nitto NT01s have good straightline traction and better wet/dry handling than most other tires of their type. Won't handle as well as the Toyos in the twisties, but should hook a little better when you stomp on it.

Just depends on what you're looking for.
This ^
I'd also like to add that, unless you pedal first gear, you are not going to get anything less than a full on drag radial to hook...and even then it's probably going to have to be hot outside.
Thanks I have been trying to figure out which tire to switch to. I would mainly want straight line performance from a tire which I do not have with the proxy.
Don't forget about the Nitto 555RII. Ive ran both the toyo and the nitto, I really couldnt tell a difference between the two traction wise. The Nitto is a good option, more availability and a little cheaper. Also, Toyo owns Nitto.... same tire compound different design. Just dont forget when your searching to remember its the 555RII not the 555R.
I have the Toyo proxys on my 2002 Z06 with 600 rwhp and they suck no traction at all!! Don't waste your money
Do you have R888's or another Proxy? They're not all the same...I've ran quite a few different proxys over the years and the R888's are by far the best.
After posting my reply I checked the proxy's that I have and they are not the 888. Not qute sure what they are, guess I spoke to soon on my post. But I did get a lot of good info on what I will buy next. So thanks to all of you for your input.

The 555RII is not available any more, they are discontinued. This is the problem I am facing now since my front tires are shot. I'm being forced to move to R888's (even though the rears have very few miles on them) since you can't find the front tires at all now. I refuse to mix the two.
Great! Good to hear that! (and good to see your pass ). I'll get 888 at the rear. Already got Proxes T1R at the front. I hope these will be fine too...
By the way. How was the driving at 200 mph? Did you have any steering problems? (had to modify something in aerodynamics? etc.)
