That's crazy, never seen an iron LS block do that.
Seem quite a few, but most were in higher HP cars is the only difference in this one really. Friend cracked 4 LQ9 blocks he's now on an LSX block that's holding so far. It's only my third LSX block I've seen do this or something real similar, same area etc...
I just finished my LM7 5.3 Iron block install this week. The only physical difference I found with the blocks was my LS6 block has 6 "motor mount" holes on the sides of the block while the 5.3 only had 4. The ones we need for the mounts are there, However our grounding straps on boths sides use those missing back bolt holes. I had to ground elsewhere. Another difference I noticed was the rear cover passage for the oil is not cut out on the block, its just holes. It will still crossover though as the rear main cover is cut out for it. All covers ,sensors, ect moved over to the new engine without issue.
70,000 on a stock engine, then about 3,000 with the blower. Looked like the block let go on #7 and maybe water broke the piston. There were no signs of detonation before or after. Normally it goes the other way, meaning 7 leans out and breaks the piston, but even then the block doesn't usually crack.
