thinking of getting a ipad or a tablet of some sort and a mount for my car.this way i can data log and still be able to have a passenger ride along because my laptop isnt taking up that seat anyone else here using a tablet or laptop and stand if so what are you using and have any pics?
I was just thinking about options for this the other day. My laptop is a desktop replacement, so on the big side. I have HPTuners so not even sure if an iPad will work, I know the one they gave us for work sucks. If all I want to do is read a file that's fine but if I have to change it, and its Microsoft based for work like an excel file, forget it, sucks. Love the iPad for all the apps just not so much for being productive.
I wonder how a Surface tablet would work? Microsoft based so that might be a option. I'm thinking about just getting a small laptop and using it for the car only and being done with it for a while.

PC
A ipad in itself won't work but could be used as a monitor.
Surface tablet would work. There have been a few threads where people talk about it and show how they've mounted it.
I'm planning on building an indash Car-PC next year when I have the time and money. I estimate it would cost ~$500, and would also serve as the media/GPS indash unit. It also will require going double-DIN which is more time/money.
I thought about doing this, I'm not sure for hp but efi live you need a windows based software so the I pad wouldn't work. I wanted to use one of my I pad minis and do this. There are other options out there that are windows based which would probably work.
I would love love a new center console that removed the radio and reconfiged the ac controls to have a windows based tablet that could mount where the radio was that was detachable. Listen to Pandora while having my Hptuners gauges up. It would be even better if Hptuners would offer their software for the ipad to do this.
I would probably go as high as 1.5k for this setup minus the tablet.

Where is it at on their site? I looked at the shop online and don't see it. That box looks a lot like mine I have already. Is it just a update you need to do?
You don't need a laptop. Why don't you use the HPT blackbox to datalog?
I have that but in all honesty haven't taken the time to work with it. I just been taking the laptop and logging with it. So, ya pretty much just hit record to start and stop when done and hook it to the laptop later to see the log? Have to mess around with that this spring, maybe that can be a happy medium.
Yes, open the HPT Scanner and use the menu: Scan > MVPI Pro data logging. First you need to write your cfg file once to the blackbox, so it knows what parameters you log. Then you can datalog anytime using the cable, and use the same menu to read/erase the files.

Thanks for the info! Ya actually answered my next question about how it knows what parameters to log. Going to play around with this the next few days, get it setup so when the weather turns around, live in NE Ohio and its been a pain this year, it will be ready to go.
Really itchin to get out with the car but doesn't look like thats about to happen anytime soon.
