The pieces won't destroy the system. They can clog it though.

My stock ones clogged and broke apart so I made a modification

They rattled and had a nice white mist out of the exhaust when I was hard on the throttle

Did your mufflers get damaged?

No they did not. The pieces that made it into that section were really small. The factory cats almost turn to sand when they break but the aftermarket may be different. I havent heard of anyone hurting their mufflers however. If you dont need the cats I would ditch them

Me? At the end they rattled like crazy and car felt choked. It did smoke under hard acceleration and had residue on exhaust tips.

I gutted them, changed my BOV, and updated tune. Went from previous 570 at 6-7 psi to 606 at 8-10psi no other changes really...

Could have been leaking boost or could have been really clogged cats or a combo of them both

Needles to say I was happy with the new numbers

I replaced my high flow cats with straight pipes because I felt like it, and I had a sneaking suspicion they were on their way out due to some small clues. I'm glad I did, because they're basically maracas now. The catalyst just melted and bunched up on itself, but didn't break apart. They were fine when I put the blower on a few thousand miles ago.
