Mine is either the water pump or the balancer

Some days it does it, some days it doesn't .. So I give up

Going to drive the car til I'm ready to do the cam swap then I'll change the balancer and water pump while I got it apart

It's no fun taking the blower out the swap the belt

Got a new belt setup .. not a 8 or 10 rib though

I joined the 3 rib club

EDIT - 4 rib club

looks like its time to start collecting parts and taking it apart .. was hoping it would hold on for another month or two but atleast it didnt fully come apart while driving it

made a sound the other day on the way to work like I threw a belt but alternator was still charging, temp didnt change, and still built boost so didnt think much of it .. checked the car before driving it today and half of the belt is gone

might put it in my garage this week and start pulling it apart and start getting parts .. going to do -

oil pump
timing chain
crank pulley
blower cam
pushrods (already got some comp 7.4)
valve springs
pin the new crank
buy or borrow a laser alignment tool for the pulleys
and whatever else I need to do while I got half the car apart

Chirping fixed. Shop said coolant residue was on the AC pulley. I was able to isolate the noise with a garden hose to the ear and it seemed more prevalent around the compressor.....so I was right but still wasn't sure why it was chirping all of a sudden. Also, no leaks there and it's a new water pump so this is still strange. We'll see if it returns.

started pulling the car apart ..

belt seemed a little loose, so im wondering if the crank pulley caused me to shread 2 ribs off a belt or if it was b/c the belt wasnt tight enough

here are some pics -

now that its apart I can get access to the crank pulley .. I remember someone saying I can test it with a pry bar to see if there is any movement

is the pulley supposed to not move at all? or should it have a little amount of give?

also, is the bonding adhesive / rubber supposed to be even around the entire pulley? I noticed its not even all the way around

just trying to confirm that it is the crank pulley and not a loose belt or faulty belt (I ran this belt for about a month)

Adrian, its clearly your crank balancer separated, i can see clearly travelling from top to both sides to bottom, outer ring on top pushed towards engine. No need of further testing, time for a new balancer and balancer bolt. If you get ARP bolt than its even better, get rid of POS stock balancer and stock balancer bolt.

Lucky you live in Atlanta, go straight to Summit racing (Mcdonough) get both of em and a new belt...lol.

glad you post a picture.

I have to go to my parents house tomorrow which is near summit racing

Probably going to stop by and pick up a new balancer and bolt

Already got a new belt .. 90 day warranty on this one

I'm going to jack the car up, drop the steering rack and probably just swap the balancer for now .. Not ready for the cam swap just yet and don't want to wait a couple months to drive the car again

Oh wow, I'm glad you posted the pics too as I can finally SEE what this whole wobbly crank pulley thing looks like.

I've never had one out so didn't realize how it could separate like that. Even then, it took me a bit to see the "ring" that is uneven there.

Thanks again, yep, time to replace and now I know what to look for on mine!
