Blown turbo(s)
I had my Corvette towed to a forum member's house: long time member and Lingenfelter ZR-1 owner Ron Kreigh (rkreigh), who worked on my car along with his friend John, who has a shop in his backyard. There was no way I'd put my car back to stock through another shop (and to pay 4k for it? He's out of his mind). Unfortunately, I couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of my problems. Turns out, my scavenger pump failed due to a disintegrated aluminum pulley, which might have broke to due lack of oil going to the pump. Anyways, it needed to go. So Ron got on the horn with Lingenfelter to see what they could do. They offered a pump rebuild or a full on replacement. After sending it to them, and waiting until the person who does the rebuilds to come in, it was found that my pump was an earlier model that couldn't be rebuild (and prone to failure). So, after getting a new pump and shipping it off to Ron, it had to be reinstalled. As this had a non-disintegrated pulley on it, and of newer, redesigned quality, it took a little more to the the new pump in than the old one. The front drivers side spring had to be removed IOT get the new pump in. Well, after Ron tested out the car, it was found that there was a hairline crack in a check valve to one of the turbos, and a new flange was fabricated to fix it. When I got the car back, she ran like new.
There was a little hesistation driving it at first but that's gone. There's likely still oil built up in the intercoolers, but that's going to get flushed out here in the near future.
Also, a change of plugs and wires, compression test, oil change, patches for the silicone charge hoses (air filters to turbos, turbos to intercoolers) for the tire rubbing, and some more work was thrown in the mix. That and I got the opportunity to meet some great people.
All in all, I'm really happy with Ron and John's work.
If there's any oil...which ends up as smoke in the turbines or exhaust, this too can take some time to clear.
So dont panic if it's smokey for a bit.
Not a fun day lol. Big mess. Fortunately we didn't have any go into the intercooler into motor.
