Default Methanol tank, vented cap needed?

If I covered vent on alkycontrol cap, would the fume build up be dangerous? It has a very high evaporation rate, and I don't use much meth, but my tank is empty, figured it is mostly from evap.

I would think about it from the other angle.

If your meth pump is pulling fluid from the tank, what fills the empty space created by the pumped fluid without a breather cap? If the tank is sealed, as the pump operates it will flow less fluid as the vacuum created increases. I'm guessing that's bad for the pump and for your motor if you tuned using meth to increase boost/timing/etc and the motor cannot support your current tune without the support.

That's because there is no pump attached, just saying.

Even without the vent cap the surge tank on a c5/6 isn't going to be air tight. Just sayin.

Ok, I will test for a leak. I just did the mod and install not long ago. Didn't leak when I installed, tested with water. I guess I will add a little to make washer warning go off, then try not to use any, and see how long it lasts.

I would fill it below the top of the neck..
Like 2 inches from the top. That way you have a physical line not relying on the float to move or ....

definitely not from evaporation, i thought that at one point when i noticed my tank was slightly lower after a couple days. Then found the leak, pump seals went out... now i can't notice a change in meth level if it sits for a week or two.

Yupp.. I have seen where someone has forgotten to tighten a hose, or even a failed 1.00 plug on the washer motor.. meth when it hits the ground evaporates.. unless its a pretty serious leak.

If you're really paranoid about evaporation through the vent, you can add a check valve backwards... that would allow air INTO the tank but not OUT of it.

Easiest way is a checkvalve designed to be used in Aquarium air pumps. They're like $2 at a pet store and will fit 3/16" tubing. Don't know how it will handle the meth vapors though.

Either way, like others stated, it doesn't sound like evaporation is your main problem
