Not to worry this is not for my Vette! but to help a friend who might just have a cracked cylinder wall!
I have been searching for a post that showed one of our Forced Inducted members whose Cylinder wall cracked and near the top by the water passage - He was having cooling issues (If I remember correctly)
He then pulled his heads because he thought he was pushing water due to a bad head gasket, but it turned out to be a crack at the top water passage!
I mean I can see the pictures in my head but I just can't seem to find it anywhere!
If you remember it and you got the post can you post the link for me?
I searched his name and just titles started by him and didn't see it. You could always pm him. Ill see if I can find it still
Yeah I did too and nothing.
But I think it was right about the time I was "Pushing Water" and ended up doing all the work myself, January 2012 - and man I searched but I came up empty!
I want to say it was Chris Stewart but I couldn't be sure - I just remember the pics -
Maybe I will start a post of pics for cracked piston holes next to the water jacket!
It's my pic, that was a brand new LME build that I tore up. I still have the block in my garage. Not sure if I might have it sleeved or sell as scrap metal, cause otherwise it's a real nice LS6 block.

Chris do you have the link to the Original post I saw this in?
Can't remember if you began a thread with this in it.

Not sure if you were talking about my thread but, I had a sleeve crack due to water intrusion. The block itself was fine. Everything in the tune was safe and the logs were spot on.
When I started pulling the heads, I found that the drivers side head had a very loose bolt...I unscrewed it with my hand. The car failed around 16psii (approx.). A friend/mechanic was helping me and he installed the heads. I should have double-checked his work but I didn't. After talking with AES about it, they told me that was EXACTLY what caused the failure.
Hope this helps...sorry about your friend.
EDIT: Didn't read that you found what you were looking for. Oh well...this is still good info...triple check your headbolts!!
Here's mine from a few years back on #7. Sleeve had a bairly visible crack in it also.
PC
Awesome picture and again tells exactly what I was looking for in a picture too!

No problem and did you have pics of the crack too?

I think I have pics back home...but I won't be there for a long time (deployed). I can tell you that, the crack in the sleeve starts about 60% down from the top...and continues all the way up to the top. The sleeve was the only thing cracked. The block was fine.
