We've been getting an unusual amount of rain. Last weekend I got caught out in a downpour. Today was the first day out since that night. While taking my son to baseball practice, I heard what I can only really describe as a fluttering noise coming from the engine compartment and I didn't hear my normal BOV sounds. I thought maybe the BOV air filter got messed up with the water, but decided to investigate.

Hmmm, take the BOV out, take the cap off and water drips out all over the place. Press on the plunger--completely seized. I had to put the rubber end of a screw driver on the plunger and tap it out with a hammer.
I rubbed the gunk (oil/water sludge) out of the chamber and off of the plunger with some 0000 steel wool, applied a thin film of head unit oil on chamber and plunger, reassembled, verified smooth plunger action.
Fluttering is gone and my comforting blow-off noise is back to normal.
Just thought I'd toss this out there. At first I was distracted with the fluttering sound and didn't realize the BOV wasn't actually BOV'ing.
