so I got to drive my s/c car today after two weeks of working on it she started running pretty good and off to the tuner I headed.Drove her nice and easy for about 10 miles then temp gauge spiked and I shut her down fast.I let her cool checked coolant belts and everything I could think of, limped her back to shop she never overheated again. We let it cool down checked fans relays everything we could thin of the car had sat and idled for hours at a time the last two weeks.Put a co2 sniffer in coolant tank and sure enough it looks like a blown head gasket. How much of a pain in the *** is it to pull heads.Seriously thinking about calling texas speed for a new long block I didn't realize I signed up for this much ****.I just want to drive
Sorry to hear that man. Pulling the heads isn't too bad should take you an afternoon if you stay on it. Get some ls9 gaskets and some good head bolts (Head studs would be best)

Most all of us have been in similar situations.
To the OP here didn't see how many miles on the motor, But since you are pulling the heads I would have them got thur with new springs and a V/job if YOU HAVE MANY MILES ON THEM.
I really wish I had a cool story to go with this but I don't.What I am starting to wonder is if the head gasket was blown before I bought the car.Well we have been wondering what has been done to this engine we will pull the heads saturday and take a peek,Ive asked around for a great machine shop in Tampa but haven't got any great reviews. Can anyone suggest the best head gasket kit I should use with a supercharger?
I don't know anything about your engine or boost level but a nice multilayer steel head gasket is the best I route. I run LS9 gaskets on my engine. Before you go pulling the heads you should do a few things first to try and isolate your problem. First is to inspect the cooling system and oiling system to see if you see traces of oil in your coolant. Next do a compression as well as a leak down test. If both of those things check out, you should inspect the cooling system for debris in front of the radiator. These cars are like street sweepers and the radiators are known for getting plugged up with debris. I know you said you already checked but check your cooling fans again. If you have HP Tuners or a scan tool, command the fans on with the software. And make sure both fans are coming on
I'd sure hate to see you buy a new short block for no good reason.
I have put my car together and taken it apart about 6 times now, since I last drove it. I just took it apart again, on saturday....after a SUPER high dollar driveline upgrade.....a pilot bearing failed...so....long story short, I feel your pain...possibly even more so.
sh*t happens. Just gotta roll with it man...bob & weave when you can.
Ls9 gaskets ar a bit oversized for a 5.7 but with that said that what I run. So far 3 years at 800+ on a ls1 block.
I've heard people with a 4.8 running them. I will likely go LS9 if I forge my a 347. The 7 Layer MLS is much better than the standard 5 layer MLS for Boost correct?
